Sold a CF hood to a member on here and he said that there are scuffs on the clear coat. He said that he used 3m fine compound and meguires scratch X by hand but that didnt really do anything. I told him that he should use a buffer to try to get them out because it generates more heat to activate the chemicals. What do you guy recommend on going? Here are some pics.

Heat is your worse enemy it has nothing to do with "activating chemicals". Buffing at extreme speeds causes friction heat thus swirling the paint or burning the clear coat. However a rotary buffer at around 1800rpm's and constant moving with a mild compound would definitely do the trick. I can't see all the scratches but from the ones I can see in the pic above a quick buff and polish should eliminate those abrasions.

But to be honest, if you've never used a buffer before DON'T try it on this hood. I would suggest meguiars scratch-x with a microfiber cloth. You can buy it from autozone, walmart etc.. and it does a pretty good job at getting rid of scratches.

Beware, however the look may not stay forever since all products like this have some filler in it. I'm also a member of www.meguiarsonline.com forums so I would post up there for help. They have unbiased opinions on products besides the admins so you can find alot of help there.

like said above using a rotary at about 1800 with a decent polish would do the trick. but if you have no experiance with a rotary dont even try it. expically on that carbon hood because it is hard to say how much clear that hood has. it could have a lot or very little and the rotary could burn threw the clear quick. a porter cable with a good polish woud most lilkey do the trick.
