Default pine sap cleaning

When I first got my car about 2 months ago i used to park my car outside of the garage during the day when I knew I was going out again.. I started to notice weird sticky white droplets (keep reading its not what you think) all over the hatch and rear window and it got progressively worse and I was really confused. I figured out it was sap coming from a branch of a pine tree that sits next to my garage. Now i park the car in the garage all the time. I decided to let the rain and car washes do the work for the first few weeks to see if the sap would come off, but no luck. It's actually worse now because all the droplets have turned solid white. I can remove the sap with my finger nail but i'm afraid i'll scratch the paint. Any advice on what to use to get rid of the gooey sap all over my rear end. Its real thick stuff..

The sticky stuff may be excrement from aphids.

Should have tried warm soap and water.

Check the detailing forum for a good one step cleaner wax.

Also try clay baring your car, usually gets overspray/sap off.

I have heard that rubbing alcohol is a safe and effective way to remove tree sap and tar. If you try it, let me know how it works

I've had too many sap incidents to count since there is a pine tree in front of my house. My suggestion is to tape off the area and use acetone. Acetone disolves tree sap very easily and requires little abrasive action. Just be careful to not to remove the clearcoat. Just wet a microfiber towel with acetone and clean up the sap until its gone and then stop. When you finish, rewax the surface.

Once sap is dried in (1 week), alcohol, soap and water, claybar, WD40, Turtle wax sap remover will not work. You need to use chemicals or abrasion.

Yeah, if the sap is not gooey anymore, then Turtle wax bug & tar remover won't work as well, but that's what I use for just about everything that sticks to my car.

1. After a good wash or if the car is already clean, I honestly use my finger nail. Haven't scratched the paint yet. Been doin' that since 1998 when I got my first car.

2. After the fingernail, you may see an outline residue. Use bug & tar remover on that: spray and let stand 30 seconds, then wipe clean.
