clay bar...
question, more specifically, where to buy the bar only without the lube that comes with it costing $10 and up....I just need the clay for use with Z6 as lube, can I use play dough?
Order it from Zaino. Also, let your "Fingers do the walking". I found some at a wholesaler for detailing supplies. Warning: They are different grades! Insure you get the finest.

Do not use Z-6 for Clay Bar lube!!! Use a mixture of car wash soap(Z-7) and water. Use a small amount of soap, just barely enough to make suds. I use about 1/2 a capful of Z-7 in a 12 oz spray bottle.

Ditto on the Z-6 comment. If you used that as lube, shortly after we would have another "I F*KED UP MY PAINT" thread. lol
Good luck!

California Clar bar, sell at Pep Boys for $14
The other brand, I forgot the name is $10 at the same place.
These kits come with the mist that you will need. some even give you a free bottle of wax, but I always toss them.
Just go to an auto parts store and ske for a claybar kit.
Like the posts said above, you can just mix soap and water in a spray bottel and that will suffice.
DO NOT USE DAWN SOAP AS A LUBE. GL.

LOL dawn soap will never harm your cars finish. It's only not recommended because it removes polish. I only clay when polish is off usually so this works out great. As a matter of fact, it's the ONLY thing I use as a lube when claying. I use natural light for claying. I check for swirl marks from every angle as well as using a light. I get nothing but compliments on my paint. Ther dealer couldn't believe how "fresh" it looked when I took it in for an oil change. Some of you are really brainwashed by the Zaino stuff. It's good stuff, but you definitely don't need EVERY product of theirs in order for the process to work correctly

3. I would definitely recommend you remove the wax buildup on your paint. Just use Liquid Dawn (hand dishwashing liquid) as a car wash. It has a high alkaline content which cuts right thru carnauba wax, paraffin, silicone oils, etc. This will get your paint finish squeeky clean and wax free.
I don't advise making a habit of washing your car with Dawn. But for this scenario it's fine. High alkaline products like Dawn are tough on polishes. It will never harm the paint finish though
