Default Color Sanding

Anybody tried it or done it successfully to their 350 (or other car for that matter)? I'm just curious how difficult it was and if you'd recommend doing it. I may be incorrect but I believe the issue here is with the paintjob itself and therefore would require the removal of the entire clearcoat. If that's the case, is there a way to put the CC back on?

Someone with a silver or silverstone posted his experience doing it a few months ago. Most shops I took the car to advised against it since they couldn't tell how thick the factory clear coat was. From the research I've done, it seems that doing it properly takes the right supplies and a very precise technique. It also seems that there is high risk of doing more harm than good unless it is done after a new paint job where extra clear coats have been applied to be sacrificed by the process.

I took more drastic measures on mine:

Very risky on a factory painted car, the factories just do not put enough layers of clear on the car to allow sanding off one or two layers to provide an even orange peel free surface. Yes, if all the clear is sanded off, you can reshoot the base and clear coat(s) , the shop will just scuff up the existing layer of paint for new paint adhesion but seems a lot of trouble to me when you can get pretty good results with an orbital buffer and 3M products to remove some of (not all) of the orange peel for a finer finish....
