Default Tips on detailing..

I just placed an order for Meg's G220 polisher (Amazon), Lake Country 6.5" pad kit (DetailedImage), and Microfiber Advanced Sampler Kit (DetailedImage).

first off, i'm not sure what backing plate comes with Meg's G220, but i went ahead and bought the 6.5" pads, cuz i think they're good to cover up bigger surfaces.

Second, i bought the pads kit and microfiber kits (great value for the money), because they include 2 of each item. basically that makes them 2 kits, 1 kit for me and the other for my bro.

Even tho DetailedImage has a discription of each pad and what is used for, i need tips on the following:

- what kind of polishes should be used on what pad? (keep in mind i'll only be dealing with Meg's products, because that's what's available for me locally)

- can i use the same pad for different polishes? e.g. using 1 finishing pad for multiple polishes, till i found out what's the best polish for my paint. or do i have to wash it, wait till it dries, and then try it again with another polish?

- what are the speeds recommended for each stage? i.e. polishing and waxing. and does it depend on the pad size?

- what Meg's products do you recommend for each stage?

FYI, my car is an '06 Magnetic Black, and my bro's is a light Silver Evo 8.

Thanks!

Thank you very much for the purchase I really appreciate the support.

I would highly recommend the Megs 105 and Megs 205 if you can find them. I would recommend either the Cyan or Orange Pad with the M105 and for the M205 I recommend the tangerine or white pad. For a glaze I usually use a black pad. For sealants and liquid waxes I use a blue pad. The M21 version 2.0 is a quality sealant. With your buffer the speed is not impacted too much by the pad size. If you have a rotary buffer it would be a larger factor.

I never mix products on the same pad. In fact while polishing I like to use two separate pads (same color) for each coat for maximum results. With a glaze, sealant or wax you should be able to use just one pad.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Greg @ DI

I polish at speed 6 when you are comfortable with the buffer, but speeds 4 - 6 are acceptable. I usually apply the glaze sealant and wax at speed 3.

Found 105 and 205, but only in 128oz and that's for $91 each!! i'll have to think twice before jumping on these..

for now, i got Meg's 3 steps (Paint cleaner, Polish, Wax).. i don't know how good is that to follow, but i'll have to give it a try and see. i got other stuff as well (Meg's SwirlX, Ultimate Compound, Gold Class wax), but gonna try 3steps first.

on the other hand, what's the best way to clean those pads? and how often do i need to clean them?

wish i had access to DetailedImage stuff...

try meg's swirl remover 2.0 instead of the 105/205. it is readily available in stores and relatively cheap
