Default Newbie Dawn Question

I have read several posts re the use of Dawn to strip wax, pros and cons. Currently, I plan on using Dawn when I claybar my car, but am considering not using Dawn when I initially wash the car.

My question: Is using Dawn when only when I claybar enough to strip off any remaining wax? My car is two weeks old, and when I asked the dealer if they waxed it before selling it to me, they said that they did not.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I adivse my customers not to let any Dawn solution come into contact with the clay bar, we have seen the Dawn attack the clay and turn it into mush. Sounds like you dont even need any Dawn if your car is new and has not been waxed. Just mix up some regular car wash, about 1/2 cap full for 20 ounces of water, in a sprayer and use that to clay bar with.

Say NO to Dawn!

Please, please, please never use dawn even if it is to strip wax.

It is true dawn will remove wax and not cause damage on the body panels as long as it is polish and wax afterwards. What most don't realize is that dawn also damages the interior mechanical parts as well as tires, brakes, exterior molding and seals, power door/lock mechanism, etc.

Any wax/sealant product can be removed by just a regular polish. There is no reason to use such a harmful product to remove a wax.

Definitely dont use Dawn with your claybar! I tried it before and the claybar literally fell apart.

Default NO DAWN!

If you are using a clay bar, it will remove whatever wax you have on the car. Why people use Dawn, I understand, but if you are going to use a product like clay bar or a polish, both will remove the wax that's there.

Jon is right about what it does to your trim and rubber. it is, afterall a DETERGENT!!!!

I use dawn with my claybar...it shows no signs of falling apart.

Are you guys not dilluting it or what?

Also it has done absolutely NOTHING to my trim and rubber, or tires, or anything else. They still look brand new.
