Question Rough paint, possibly overspray?

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago, someone backed up into my Z, damaging the rear bumper. I had it repaired, and just got it back 2 days ago. The newly painted bumper feels fine, but the rest of my car feels like a very fine grit of sandpaper, I tried waxing the hood (farthest away from rear bumper) and it still feels gritty, but is VERY shiny still...

Anyone know how I can remove this gritty feeling? Claybar, wetsand, buffing?

I'm no expert on detailing cars, so any suggestions should be for a novice car cleaner.

I'd post pictures of it, but you can't notice it at all unless you feel the paint.

Thanks!

Then just take it back to who did the work, they shouldn't charge you and it will be better than you screwing up your finish.

Waxing isn't to get rid of roughness.

A medium grade clay bar is specifically designed for over spray. I'd suggest the Clay Magic Medium Grade Clay Bar or the DI Accessories Medium Grade Clay Bar. Both of these should be able to help you out just combine it with a good clay lube (ie Poorboy's World Spray & Wipe (S&W)) and a quality microfiber towel to remove the excess lube from the paint. The clay bar section of our detailing guide can walk you through the process if needed.

OP - Do you know if they had the bumper off of the car while painting?

I'm thinking that it's just your paint being older than a freshly painted one. My car is the same way. All the freshly painted parts feel a lot smoother than the body of the car.

I'm not sure if they took it off or not, but on my rear window there's overspray too. I'm 100% positive it's overspray, because before it was painted, my paint was smoother than my windshield haha

Hmm... I can see you having some overspray here or there if they left it on the car, but I find it hard to believe that the whole car is covered in overspray!

Either way I'd try the clay bar that removes the overspray.
