Default Washing Engine?

Just bought a bunch of chemical guys stuff and I was wondering on washing our engines. Well the HR engine to be specific. What things should I be covering before I start spraying the all purpose cleaner and scrubbing and rinsing it off? Thanks for your help guys.

As long as you don't drown everything with water really nothing needs to be covered, unless you have exposed intake filters, cover those. I usually just give everything a quick mist, spray the products on, per instructions either let it sit or scrub it or whatever it wants, then just wash off everything again just be sparing with the water. The only things that can be hurt by water are any air intake areas, electrical stuff, and then anything else that is damaged and not working properly but I guess that doesn't really count. With the Z the stock intake limits water intake well so thats not an issue so your left with electrical. Assuming no wires are cut or anything the only thing exposed is your alternator so if you REALLY wanted to you could cover it; but again as long as you don't drown it, it'll be fine.

Just don't do it when the engine is still real hot.
You can warp stuff that way.

When I was selling my Civic I used Gunk Orange Engine Cleaner and did not cover anything in the engine bay. Did not have a problem. I also did not go crazy with the water. Just used enough to wash off the stuff.
