Default Dull spot after compound

Hi guys-
It's been a long time since I've posted on g35 forums. Mainly cause I don't own a g anymore but I still keep up with everything going on and do occasional reading. Anyways I have a C250 coupe now and I got a scuff on the side and used compound, it seems the compound has messed up my clear coat. Any tips on fixing this? I can post pics. Figured I'd ask one of the biggest forums I know of. Can anyone recommend a detailed in the New York metro area. Thanks

Like sandpaper polishes come in light cut to heavy cut, usually ones listed as compounds are of the heavy cut variety. A more abrasive compound will remove scuffs and light scratches, but will leave a mat finish, to get to a nice shine you must follow with one or two lighter cut polishes. Some of the higher end Mercedes have a ceramic clear coat and need some special polish treatments, check if your car has that clear coat first.

By the way, what type of polish/compound did you use?

That is a fairly heavy abrasive product and unlike the more pro products it doesn't have a diminishing cutting action. Assuming you just applied this by hand, an application of a medium cut polish from 3M, Meguiars, etc will fix this. Some of these companies offer small two part kits with the appropriate hand polishing foam pads in their nonprofessional consumer line that are perfect for your needs.

All cars today have a clear coat. A ceramic clear coat comes on the big S class Mercedes and depending on the model year can be ordered on some of the other models. A ceramic clear coat is very difficult to work with, so I was just asking if your car had it. It' very obvious when you start polishing.

Invest in a Porter Cable and different abrasiveness in pads

If you have a dull spot I would suggest following up with a lighter compound and then a finishing compound
