Question Porter Cable Help

Does anyone have any experience with a PC 7424? I've been asking people all over Autopia about this topic but I'm still scared to use one. I would love to hear a Z owners first hand experience with a PC. I would appreciate any tips on how to use a PC properly on my Z. I'm scared that I'll mess it up somehow.

be very patient! try not to rush the job. make sure you have extra pads just in case. always check the pad after every panel to see if there's any dirt or other stuff that might scratch the paint. make sure you wash your car thoroughly. i read on autopia that some people will spray some QD (eagle one, megiuars, etc) on the pad to provide more lubricity. i wasn't aware of it when i first used my PC but it sounds like a great idea, i will try this next time. did i mention patience? good luck and have fun! hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions. i'm not a professional but i've used the pc7424 on my z before and the results came out great. sorry, no digi camera so no pics!

Are you planning on using the foam pad with the plastic backer plate that came with the unit or have you purchased a velcro quick change backer plate and foam pads to go with it.

Thanks for you comments macam308, thankfully I'm very patient when it comes to detailing my Z.

Kevin, along with the PC I also recieved an orange, white and gray pads from Autopia. Is the white pad that came with the PC OK to use?

I'm planning on using 1Z Paint Polish, Klasse AIO, NXT and Pinnacle Souveran with these pads.

If you have the velcro backer plate and the changable pads you listed you can toss the plastic backed foam pad you got with the PC you will never use that again as once the velcro backer plate is mounted you should never take it off.

Kevin, thanks for the info on getting the velcro backer plate and foam pads from top of the line.

The weather this weekend was perfect to learn how to use my PC 7336. I was a little concerned at first but once I put the pad to my sisters car it was a no brainer. I started with 3M 39009 over the whole car and then applied Zymol. I will not go back to applying wax by hand. Thanks again.

I just used mine for the first time this weekend on my pickup truck. I used Menzerna polish and it worked great, although, I didnt realize the speed was adjustable until after I used the first compound and read the directions that came with the Menzerna. It was very easy, safe, and took out almost all of the small scratches on my black truck.

If the weather cooperates on Tuesday & Wednesday I will be doing my Spring detail early. I simply can't wait to use my PC. It's also reasurring to know that it's easy and safe to use.
