Default Z-2 removal more difficult with microfiber towels?

I just got a set of MF towels and found that removal of Zaino Z-2 was quite a bit more difficult than with the cotton towels I had previously used.

That makes sense, in that the MF towels are less abrasive, but one of the things I really like about Z-2 is that it's easy to remove.

Now I have to use lots of elbow grease again. Have others experienced this?

I haven't really noticed that. Did you use ZFX? Was it hot and sunny (dumb question since you are in NM)? Did you use more than usual?

Dr. Greg:

I experienced the same thing this past weekend. I've used big cotton towels before and the Z-2 and Z-5 came off with no trouble. I just tried some MF towels and it was a whole lot more difficult to get the Zaino off.

Of course, it could be any number of things:
1) Temp and Humidity were different than before.
2) Zaino went on a little thicker than before.
3) A big cotton towel can remove more Z-* than a MF towel.

This weekend I'll try to put the Zaino on even thinner than before and see if the MF towels handle it better. Otherwise I'll just keep the MF towels for doing Z-6 and final polishing and use the cotton towels to remove the bulk of the Z-* coats.

I find that the 80/20 work better for me since they're not quite as "fluffy" as the 70/30 (as a general rule)

Doc, it gets cold in NM. Current temp. 35 degrees with rain. For the next five days the lows will be in the low 30's. However, with the garage I was able to get #48 on last night. Might try and squeeze in #'s 49 & 50 today and overnight.

I have not experienced the towel situation as described. I don't think I ever used a WalMart, Sam's or Cosco microfiber towel. Used cotton per Zaino recommendation until switching to DF Towels. Sounds like Greg might have put on in the sun, left on too long or too much ZFX.

There is such a wide variety of quality for micro fiber towels, it is hard to say...... I have no problem with the DF towels however..

what kind of mf towel are you using? Some MF towels aren't looped and those aren't designed for removing wax or polishes. Look for a MF towel that is designed for removing polishes/waxes. The new vikings works really good in my experience. I bought the drying, Cleaning (for glass), and the one to remove waxes and they all worked well. I bought mine from checkers auto parts (not sure if you have checkers on your location).

Well, the towels were 16" x 16" "ultra micro fiber" towels from pakshak.com (good service, BTW).

I applied a pretty thin coat of Z-2 (I have quite a few coats already applied, nothing like the "real" doc, y'understand); my garage was probably about 60 degrees F at the time. I've applied Z-2 in similar conditions, and it seemed to be easier to remove w/good ol' cotton towels (which also have never given me any swirls...my Z is a CS). I guess I was using the MF towels because I'm following the crowd (me a lemming?)

I'll try again this weekend...maybe throw a few chunks in the ol' wood stove to warm the garage a bit. BTW, for all of you who think New Mexico is like Phoenix...IT AIN'T THE CASE! It's COOOLD here in the winter! Something to do with being on the Colorado Plateau (5,500 foot altitude)

I have a black z, so I usually use Z5 and my microfiber towels remove that fine. But this past weekend I tried Z2 and removing it was a lot harder with the same towels.

Well, I give up with the microfiber towels. It's just too much of a struggle to remove the Z-2 or Z-5. I'll stick with my "made in USA" white cotton towels, thank you very much!
