Default Question on clay bar usage

I have overspray on my car from the damn dealer. I'm going to re-clay car. Anyone want to tell me how to do it?

1. Whats the proper amount of pressure to use with clay. Do I press hard, or gently glide it over the surface.

2. Whats a good lubricant to use with this?

3. I plan to buy the claybar at Auto Zone. I'm not spending $18 for Zaino's

Moderate pressure with good lubrication. Just push hard enough to get the paint to come off.

I use a back and forth motion when I do the claying.

Thanks Dr. Do I have to remove the zaino prior to claying? I already have coats and coats of z2 on my car

Moderate pressure - if you press too hard, the clay will just ooze out to the side, so it's almost impossible to press too hard. Just work back and forth and let the clay do the work.

Some bars come with a lube in the kit. Otherwise, use a ratio of about 1 part soap to 4 or 5 parts water in a small spray bottle.

Can't blame you. You can get a kit of clay and lube for under $10. Clay Magic is great. Maybe do a search at Bizrate and see if there's a kit you like.

No you don't have to remove your Zaino first. Unless your overspray has been covered over with layers of Zaino. If so, I'd still clay it to see if that would be enough but you may need to remove it if it doesn't work.
