Default Orange peel

Did my first real washing and Zainoing of my Z roadster this weekend; it looks *FANTASTIC*!

Well, mostly fantastic: I noticed that this car has an awful lot of orange peel in the paint, more than other production cars in my experience, and a lot more than competitive German sports cars (Boxster, Z3, etc).

Has anyone else noticed this? Has anyone done anything about it?

I compounded a few of the really bad areas, but I am too chicken to really take down the peel with a thorough color sanding -- no idea how much paint there is to work with!! Anyone really have at this?

As to where the problem areas are, it seems that Nissan put the effort into making the really prominent parts look great (hood, rear deck), but the lower part of the doors and rear show the most peel.....

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks,
-frank

I noticed it. The amount of orange peel seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle and mine seemed to be very pronounced (worse than any domestic vehicle I have ever owned). The paint seemed too thin to cut it down with wet sanding and buffing so I had the car redone to better than factory standards at my expense.

Do a search on "orange peel"

There should be enough reading to keep you busy the rest of your natural life.

yea color sanding is your best bet, im not exactly sure how much it costs but it will get rid of that rough look. i saw a car a stillen dyno day that had colorsanded the door, but not the rear quarter pannel (weird) but you could totally see the diff.
