Hello all,

I recently purchased an 03 PPW w/ 12000 miles on it. I have been looking into the best ways to detail it, and zaino seems to be at the top of the list.

My question is this: My Nissan dealer applied a polymer coating to the car that I can have re-applied every six months. The company that does it is Autobutler. Do I need to remove the polymer coating before starting the zaino?

Can anyone school me on the benefits/negatives of the polymer coating?

You should just wash with dawn at first and then you will be ready to apply zaino. You should clay as well.

 

I'm not familiar with Autobutler, but Zaino itself is a polymer coating. There are several on the market.

You could probably get all purist and **** and try to contact Autobutler to find out how to remove it. Sal Zaino recommends a 50/50 alcohol/water solution to remove Zaino. It's probably totally un-necessary.

I agree with Reggi914. Wash with Dawn, claybar, and Zaino on. You'll have a thin layer of the Autobutler underneath the Zaino, but there's very little chance it will ever do you harm.

If you want more reassurance, send your question in an email to Zaino. Sal has tried almost every product on the market and he has probably heard of this Autobutler and could advise you.

Zaino is a synthetic that needs to be applied to bare paint, just wash with Dawn and/or clay bar it and then do the Zaino and you will be fine.
