Default HRE Polished Lip STAIN...best way to remove?

I have no idea what got on the polished lip of my wheel. I have removed the bulk of the substance with Z5 and water. Need some advice on a safe method for removing the stain.

Try using a claybar or some polishing compound. You can treat a clearcoated polished lip the same as you would your paint.

Forgot to mention the claybar...tried that too. The lips are not clearcoated, so no abrasives as the scratch quite easily. Searching for some type of solvent.

(edit:cleaned with Z7 and water, the soapy stuff )

if its a water spot, vinegar is great, but i dont know if its safe to use on polished wheels. I would imagine its perfectly safe.

Thanks for the suggestions. HRE recommends via e-mail...Mequiars NXT All Metal Polish. The auto parts establishments in my thriving metropolis do not carry this product.

Any suggestions for an online source? Tried properauto, premiumauto and autopiacarcare...no luck.

KShep... let me know if you find something that works. I have a similar issue with my iForged wheels. Something got on them that I have had no success removing... though mine are clearcoated and I think my problem is in the clearcoat, not the wheel finish itself.

Thanks MSOsr...much appreciated.

Andy...HRE asked if the lips on my wheels were polished or clearcoated. My response...lips are polished, centers are brushed finish & clearcoated. I will be happy to ask them for a cleaning product recommendation for the clearcoated centers. Will advise upon their reply.

ypwpat...I prefer to clean my wheels with hot, soapy water and a 100% cotton towel. Many of the spray on/rinse off wheel cleaners contain corrosives that can etch the finish of your wheels, so I avoid using them. I can't really comment the product you mentioned, as I have never used it on my wheels.

I know that some guys are light 'wet sanding' their unclearcoated polished lips. It supposedly takes out all the slight imperfections, and makes them shine like crazy.
Mine are clearcoated, so I dont know.

Durso...the lips on your HRE's are polished and clearcoated? I'm asking because I've seen some of the pics you've posted and I haven't noticed and appreciable difference.

Andy, this is the word on clearcoated finishes on wheels from HRE.

With clear coat all suggest is soap & water with smooth rag. Clear coat
really can't be touched up. You can use the same product "Meguairs" but
it won't last due to it being a coated finish. If the centers get to
bad it's best to send them in when you have time and have us re-do them
as a new finish.

I know this isn't what you wanted to read, but that's the reply I got.

Yes, mine are polished, then clearcoated. You have to look real close to see the clearcoat. It has a slight orange peel type look to it. Not noticeable unless you are right up close to them.
On polished only, not clearcoated, they can be polished by light wetsanding from what I hear.

I chose to get clearcoated lips due to sometimes I park next to grass, and sprinklers would leave water spots on the lips. Pain in the **** for polished only. No problem for clearcoated.

Being clearcoated, Soap and water is all I need to clean my wheels.

I believe mine are not clearcoated, being as I didn't ask for it. . . and i've had a few spots on the lip and used Mothers Pearl Mag Polish.

The picture kinda shows the results:

Your Z is looking very nice Webiteks. Looks like the Mothers product is producing excellent results. Post up and let us know how the Eclipse project works out...I'm especially interested in how thier trim plate looks on the Z interior.

Got your PM - KSHEP

These wheels are a PITA to keep clean. The rotors are an added PITA.

I ended up getting an air compressor to blow off all the excessive water from my wheels before I totally dry them and detail. Also works good to get excess water out of mirrors, and other seams that like to collect water. After using the air compressor, I dont have any water spots/drips anymore. Its a good investment. Saves time, and time is money back in your pocket. My compressor has paid for itself over and over.

Are you sure the lips aren't clear coated? I wouldn't think HRE would skimp on something like that

edit: you cleared that up
