DURSO, what kind of compressor did you purchase...size wise, I don't have much room in the garage. I'm using a 4HP mini-vac that can be reversed to a blower for just he same detail work you describe, but something more powerful would make it much quicker.

I got this one from Coleman. Its a Powermate 11 gal. They make smaller ones also. It was like $200.

Coleman Powermate 11 gal.

Well hell, I got enough room for that. Thanks DURSO, looks like a good deal and just what I need.

If you really want shiny, and have some patience, get some Wenol (super metal polish from Germany), used for electron microscope parts.
Check the web for where to buy. One place is E Fullam supplies.

I've never tried wenol. . . but if you want to have your polished lips looking like mirrors, just pop in at a local parts show such as AutoZone and pick up "Mothers" Mag and Aluminum polish.

IMO. . Metal polish is metal polish. . . if it polishes a metal to be nearly flawless (the results i've seen) then it can't really get much better. You're basically paying for name brands and bandwagons such like Zaino and how it's been a big hit with Z owners.

Give one a try. . . . you won't go wrong with either products.

Kenny,
You mentioned what HRE said about clearcoated wheels what did they say about the polished rim.
I don't see why you can't use a solvent to remove stain and then use the polish if there is discoloration on the rim. I would think acetone, methanol, or maybe iso-propyl would cut the stain. I would think you could even use paint stripper.

Bob, I asked HRE for a solvent after your earlier suggestion. Sent them the same pic shown...Renee e-mailed that her staff recommended NXT ALL Metal Polish...which I should receive today.

I'll be attacking this stain very soon. Will try the solvents you suggest first, then see where to go from there. Pics to follow...Thanks...Kenny

Thanks to everyone who replied with suggestions for removing this blemish. Here's what I did and how it has worked out so far.

Washed and dried wheels while cool and in shade.

Used some acetone to try and dissolve the solid parts of the blemish. Applied with several cotton swabs. 25% effective and removed one fresh blemish totally. Had I used this sooner, would have been more effective. No affect on the stain.

Applied Meguairs NXT All Wheel Polish with a DF towel. Be careful here...the polish goes to work on the hardened parts of the blemish, and will loosen them into the towel...scratch. Caught this before doing too much damage, but there's a new scratch on the rim. Recommend using cotton swabs with the polish just on the affected area with a very light touch. Twirling the swab will remove any particles that may cause damage.

Finished up with a light coat of polish on the entire lip...removed copious amounts of oxidation. Ruined a good towel, but the lip is much more vibrant. The stain is gone, some of the hardened residue remains. Hopefully a few more repetitions of this process will get that stuff off.

I cleaned the remaining three lips with NXT and Wenol Blue. Both of these products worked well, no damage, oxidation removed and a vibrant shine. The NXT is more of a liquid and spreads out more, a little harder to control where it goes. The Wenol is a paste and easily controled.

What I used:

After...camera skills failed me a bit here...lighting problems. But the circular stain in the previous pic is gone, and I think a little more work will remove these small blemishes.

I can't believe Mother's Mag/Aluminum polish wouldn't have removed the entire blemish without any effect on the rest of the wheel surface (other than polishing it).

I've used it on my wheels to remove similar stains and have only ended up with brilliantly shined lips as a result.

You may well be correct, and this experiment isn't over. I decided to use what HRE recommened first. As soon as I get the other products mentioned that haven't already been tested, I'll see how they perform.
