Default picture proof of why NOT to use the Mr. Clean AutoDry

OK, so two weeks ago I see this Mr. Clean AutoDry kit at Wal-Mart for $15. I read the reviews and all of that and heard about how it strips away wax, but I don't really wax my car anyways so I figured I would give it a try. I, like many, hate drying my car so I thought this would be the answer.

I washed my Z with this kit the first day I got it, and right away I noticed my sheepskin cleaning mitt getting really dirty... BLACK dirty, just like how other reviewers have explained. Regardless, I kept cleaning it, followed the instructions, and let it dry. Sure as hell, a couple of minutes later, it was spotless. I was very skeptical when I tried it, but to my surprise, it worked exactly the way it was advertised to.

A couple of days later, I noticed a slight film over my headlights, but thought nothing of it other than thinking that maybe I didn't rinse that area enough. So today, I washed my car again with this AutoDry kit and made sure I thoroughly rinsed my car before using the spot-free "mist." I let it dry, and yet again, it was spotless.

So I begin to apply Meguiar's Endurance to my tires (which by the way I highly recommend). After that was done, I cleaned my interior. Once all this was finished, I walked around the car to see how clean my car was.......

This is when I noticed what this damned AutoDry had done to my once beautiful Z.

Look at the film it left on my windows and headlights. My tint now looks like a rainbow tint, which is definitely not the look I was going for. I tried to take good pics that would show off this film, but it was kind of hard since it was starting to get a little dark, cuz this film is definitely more visible in person. And on top of this rainbow-looking film, the surface of my car just isn't smooth anymore. I tried running my finger along the surface but rather than gliding smoothly, it kinda skipped or hopped along.

So if this isn't enough proof for any of you guys to NOT use this product, then I don't know what is. Now I'm going to have to Dawn my car over the weekend and try to remove this film. Maybe an order of CG or Zaino will make me feel better.

a window cleaner couldn't get the film off?? Yeah i would use it, but after how ppl say it strips wax, i'm coo off it. Drying with the CA blade makes it much easier.

Your finger doesnt glide accross the paint cause there is NO WAX on the car man!!Put wax on and your paint will feel smooth again, the autodry strips everything off your paint, wax included..

Forget what it did to your windows and headlights, look what it did to your license plate!

My finger used to glide a lot more effortlessly before I used the AutoDry. I was just trying to state that it was more proof that AutoDry did in fact strip the wax. When I said I don't really wax my ride, I didn't mean I never waxed it. I just don't wax as often as some of these hard core Zaino guys do. I definitely would be waxing more often if I had the time to.

As for the window cleaner, I thought about it but I figured I'd just Dawn the car and go back to my good ol' Meguiar's soap so that the film would be off the entire car as opposed to just the windows.

what proof do you guys have that this stuff strips wax? This is the only site i've read this on. I don't see how anything involved with it would strip wax. I also do see this company making something that will strip wax as they know waxing is important in this field.

It did the same thing to my SB 350Z after 2 washes, I had to go back to using my Gold Class car wash to get all that film off. It will leave a bad film on the car also, I could see it easily with the SB paint.

yes, but wasn't this designed for a car? I just don't see any of the ingrediants in it stripping wax. I think most people feel that film and assume the wax has been stripped. I don't know either way, i was just curious if someone had proof.

I reccommend using Simple Green. It will make your paint shine like no other car wash formula. I have tried every formula out there (besides zaino) and it works the best.

You actually have to dry less b/c water sheets off of it like in the Mr Clean stuff.

edit: I have to ask, what is wrong with the film being on there besides the rainbowish tint on the windows? Did you ever think the film is sort of like a protective layer? Sounds like you might be getting upset for no reason.

Autodry is suppose to have a filter that removes all the minerals from hard water...right?

Murci, why would you take simple green to your paint? IT's a degreaser, it'll most liekly strip the wax off

the return policy seems like everyone elses. If you don't like it you are almost always required to pay the shipping cost

Yea... I figure it's ok tho cuz $15 isn't too big of a loss. To make me feel better, I finally ordered my Zaino kit for $93.65 about 5 mins ago. Wahoo! Now I gotta buy some microfiber and waffle weave towels. Anybody have any recommendations on where to get these towels from?

The film comes from the sheeting agent contained in the Mr. Clean car wash which to me is very low quality car wash, it probably contains something similar to what is in automatic no spot dish washing solutions, many people are using the Mr. Clean just for the final pure water filter process with out using the Mr. Clean car wash soap and just was the car as normal by hand with your usual car wash and use the Mr. Clean pure water final rinse at the end.

You use Simple Green on your paint?

GAH!

That stuff will most likely strip the wax right off. It is too strong. It will even cause rubber to break down.

Go to Simple Green's website, they don't even recommend washing the whole car with it (only stuff like tar and bug removing).
