Default tires must be the problem...

I swear I had issues today for my first time at the track due to tires...

This was not my first time dragging by a long shot... So I was disappointed by what kkinda times i had received for my runs...

My best time ended up when I slipped the clutch at a measely 1k-1.2k rpm... My first two passes I was in the high 90s with almost 3 seconds on 60'... so here are my three passes:

pass 1 pass 2 pass 3
R/T .102 .195 .025
60' 2.868 2.808 2.286
330' 7.326 7.111 6.725
1/8 10.666 10.358 9.740
MPH 75.18 77.05 75.55
1000' 13.470 13.116 12.543
1/4 15.833 15.442 14.887
MPH 96.43 97.79 96.85

I feel totally that I was spinning the first two runs for first and second gears without any tractions... The third pass I felt like i ran without any power at all..

Does anyone else feel that this could be due to the stock rubber? Or do you think that I am at fault for such low times? I dont think that it is me as after the tires cuaght I did well. But would like some feedback from all of you.

almost 98 MPH while running a mid 15 seems horrible and all i can contribute it to is the rubber or myself... Please HELP me with any serious advice that you can...

This is also on an '04 stock performance 6mt w/VDC off. Just under 9,300 miles on the car.

Sounds like you went to California Speedway, given that your in So. Cal.

You have to deal with 3 disadvantages in California Speedway.

1. The launch pad isn't preped well. Don't expect 2.0 on street tires, 2.1 is rare on street tires - but doable, 2.2 is about the norm.

2. Going down the stretch it's quite slippery and you will at times get wheelhop going into 4th gear (not always).

3. The headwind can be quite strong. Of the times I been to CSW, its almost always windy until late at night.

If it is California Speedway, it is a bit trickey to get off the line and stay straight in the 1/4 mile. The stock tires ain't too bad, you should be able to get 2.2 60's.

I ran with Daytona350 and he was using Potenza's, on a few runs he was able to get 2.2's with 30 PSI on the rears. If you drop down to 25 PSI on the rears, you should get 2.2's consistently. However, with lower tire pressure, your trap speeds will be lower. It's possible to get 14.1 to 14.4 at California Speedway, but it takes some good launching to get it (which isn't easy due to the track conditions). You can try warming up the tires briefly (minor burnout on the pad ) and lowering the tire pressure and you should be able to get 2.1 60's.

To my experience, you can slip the clutch at 2500 RPMS @ 25 PSI rears and get a nice 2.2 second launch consistently (2.1 is possible without warming up the tires, but its quite rare for me to get). IF your runing 35 PSI rears, you can't really launch any higher than 2200 RPMS, but you can get trap speeds of 100.

Looking at your 60's on street tires, you might be applying too much gas off the line. You have to slip the clutch off the line and gradually gas the car off the line. Just because the tires gains traction, doesn't mean you can't loose traction. California Speedway works a tad different. Eventhough, if you get a good launch off the line on 1st @ 2500RPMs, if you apply too much gas you will lose traction again, gas your throttle steadly up to 4000 RPMS and you should be able to hit WOT without breaking traction. Shifting into 2nd is a little tough since it'll feel rather stiff to put into gear (for me at least). In addition, you will get wheelhop going into 2nd WOT. There is also a possible chance your car will get wheelhop again going into 4th WOT. It's hard to conceptualize this on a thread, if you launch enough times you'll feel the 2 stage difference I'm talking about at CSW on street tires. Now if your on drag radials or slicks, you don't have to worry as much on losing traction after the inital start.

Definately stock tires. I got 10 runs in when I went to the track. Almost all the runs, I spun halfway through first. Heres my best and worst:

Worst:
R/T: .391
60: 2.538
330: 6.382
1/8: 9.456
MPH:80.80
1000: 12.073
1/4: 14.282
MPH: 102.74

Best:
r/t: .406
60: 2.301
330: 6.076
1/8: 9.123
MPH: 81.25
1000: 11.731
1/4: 13.920
MPH: 103.75
