Default 5AT vs. 6MT

My wife was driving at the 1/8 mile track at Qualcomm Stadium tonight and had some guy in a Grand Touring roadster come up against her. A little light smack talk, but it was soon put to rest. She took him in a bad way. She pulled a 9.886 @ 71.2 to his 11.256 @ 69.12. He was off the line first with a reaction of .798 to her .913, but she caught and passed him before the 60 foot mark, making a 2.320 to his 2.779. Not bad for her first night out, and actually put a few things to rest concerning our car, giving me more of a reason to want to put it on a dyno. Too many people have been telling us we have a freak.

Looks like the other guy mis-shiftted pretty bad.

Yes, mine is the 5AT. The funny thing is, I was expecting someone to talk about a misshift, but I was there and if he misshifted, it sure didn't sound like it. I thought it was funny for all the smack my wife said he was talking on the line.
I also noticed how differently people treat women racers, even when she lost, she was still getting cheered on by the crowd.

9.8s at 71mph is a 15.2 second car. I'm afraid that's hardly freakish and actually terribly slow for a Z. The 11.256 @ 69.12 is an 18 second car. Sounds like neither driver was good.

A 2.779 60' is horrible.

I probably should have also stated that this was the first time my wife has ever drag raced, although her times were getting better through the night. Of her six runs, the one against the other ZR was the best of the night. We'll see what happens in a few weeks when I do it, but I haven't done any racing since high school, and that was 12 years ago.

The best 1/8 mile I have ever run was a 9.2 and thats at 3,000ft. A 9.8 at sea level seems kind of strange.

She tried a few different ways, even with the TCS off, but with the water they were dragging from the water box, it made its way to the line. they claimed to have put traction compound down before the races start, but most people spin a little when taking off. I have found another track, which is supposedly better, so we'll have to see what happens there.

When you go over a water box, you might want to spin the tires (assuming your running street tires) briefly to get rid of all the nice pebbles and water stuck on the tire.

Irwindale has the best preped 1/8 mile track in So. Cal. If your hoping to get better traction from California Speedway or Palmdale (1/4 mile tracks), its not going to be easy (with a 5AT, I think it would be a tad easier at least).

Is there no way to drive around the water box? and just spin them enough to get the junk cleaned off
