Default launching

When i launch my car i get a smell which im pretty sure is my clutch burnin up. Im not dropping the clutch i guess i just let it out slowly for a second till it grabs then im off. Is this like horrible for my car or what? Ill be getting an aftermarket clutch pretty soon so im trying to get all my practice in. Im pretty sure that seeings im not dropping the clutch, what im doing is only affecting the clutch itself. Thanks for replies

I believe you are only affecting the clutch itself. It's a cost tradeoff. Would you rather wear out your clutch or have all the power slam into your tranmission and LSD? I'd rather wear out the clutch.

I used to own a WRX which has a relatively "weak" transmission given the huge power gains people were making from stock. Slipping the clutch was common way to help preserve the tranny.

I also have never just dumped the clutch. I just can't bring myself to abuse the car that way. Just slipping the clutch does seem hard on the clutch though. Soooo I asked a mechanic friend how he would recommend launching from his point of view and basically he said to slip the clutch just enough to take the slack out of the drivetrain and then let go of the clutch and gas it. With TCS off at 3000K I get a little chirp and I am off.
