I guess I'll go borrow a helmet before I start. I bet if I get the helmet first I won't even make it into the 13s.

Sending you PM.

fI'm back from my first track run! All I can say is WOW! What an adrenaline rush. It's SO much better than racing on the street.

Let's see some.. some notes:

- When I race the clock instead of the guy on the side of me I tend to do alot better.

- It's hard to avoid the water box

- I forgot to lower my tire pressure so I was wheel hoppin like a ****

- When someone tells you.. youre not allowed to run again without a helment.. makes you feel fast :P and when youre wearing it.. you feel even faster

- Cold weather kicks ***

My first run I missed second gear.. pulled a 14.6..

Then I ran again without missing a gear but took it kind of easy.. ran a 13.96.. guy tells me I needa go get a helmet..

I'm happy as hell thinking I can't do any better and I should just sit down now and retire for the night.. but nope..
I decided to go again and I ran a 13.85!

Let me just say I didn't expect to break into the 13's at all much less 13.8.. I couldn't be happier.. I pulled a freakin 1.9 60 foot on the Crap potenzas!

I can't wait to learn to drive better and get some better tires~! Mid 13's here I come

Here's a list of all my runs slowest to best:
14.6
14.0
13.98
13.96
13.85

I was wondering how the situation turned out. Glad you enjoyed yourself. If possible, scan and post time slips. Thanks.

Congrats on the runs man.

Dave had spotted you before I did, he had asked who had the black Z. Four Daytona Blue (three touring models) Z's tends to stir up confusion, it seriously took me three tries to figure out which car was mine because I didn't remember my car number or where I parked. Even my girlfriend called before I ran to see which car I was.

My best was a 14.0 with a 2.18 60'; I was rather disappointed. Need more practice

My friend who came with me needs practice, the best 60' he pulled was a 2.3 and his best was a 14.5.

I'll be down for another meet like this in 06

I'm definitely down to go again! I had a blast.
It was cool meeting you and Dave. That's the first time I've met someone from the car forums.

About all the blue Z's: Yeah man I had no idea which one you were! I had to just guess.. I saw you with a girl and I was like.. well he said he was coming with his girlfriend.. so I guess that's him! lol

Here you go: http://0889666996.com/

I would put the pics in the thread but it doesn't allow me to "hotlink" images at my host. I posted pics of my car and the 13.85 slip there. Check it out and let me know what you think!

I'm pretty used to meeting people from the boards since there is a local forum in Baton Rouge and they have meets pretty much every week.

I know we didn't get to talk much but I'm sure we will next time.

Yeah, she's pretty grouchy right now. It was a bit too cold for her but she really wanted to come. Other than that I think she enjoyed herself. Not too many girlfriends are willing to go to the track who actually like cars

Thanks. I’m looking at a time slip with a 1.93 second 60-foot time. It doesn’t get better than that. Suggestions? Yes. Whatever you are doing – do it again. Good show.

Thumbs up

Wow that is an outstanding 60ft, BUT, you really need to work on your shifting. With such a great launch you should be running high 8.7 low 8.8 1/8 miles, and your high 8.9 1/8 is telling me your shifting aint that great(you shift 2X in first 1/8). You went 13.85, but with a 60ft like that you could have gone 13.5X....

For reference my first run ever stock was a bad 2.16 60ft, but I ran 13.80 @ 100.8...13.77 with a 2.05 60ft. Get the picture? Not trying to flame you, you are on a great track to being a great drag racer, just work on the shifting speed some

You're serious? 13.5x potential?

Yeah, as I said my 2nd to 3rd shift kind of needs work. I get nervous throwing it hard(thinking I will miss) so I do it kind of half ***. First to second and third to fourth are pretty solid.

Edit: I get a good amount of wheel spin shifting from first to second.. that I think is definitely hurting my times. Any suggestions other than new tires?

Im dead serious about the 13.5X stock. I think one guy has hit a high 13.5, I know 13.6 has been done stock at better tracks with better drivers. My 13.7 came at a $hitty track

As far as not spinning into second try not going WOT initially into 2nd gear, so you wont get that instant power and spin. Do 1/2 or 3/4 throttle at first in 2nd, you will still chirp but you wont be spinning. You have GREAT 60ft's, I have only seen 1 guy beat your 60ft times on stock tires, keep up your launch techique, and just work on your shifts (improvong only your 2-3 wont drop you .3 but I think improving all of them will) and building up your confidence to shift like its nobody's business, without the thought of missing

That's awesome to know about the 60 foot. I didn't know it was that good. I guess I'll keep doing what I'm doing as far as the launch goes. As far as speeding up the shifting-I'm going to try powershifting next time. I used to do it in the mustang, but I haven't felt comfortable enough in the Z to try it yet. I have alittle time inbetween now and the next track day so I will practice shifting for a while until I feel like I'm doing really well.. then start trying out the poweshifting. I wish I had somewhere safe to practice.. so much damn traffic around here! Anyway, I appreciate your input and look forward to trying to acheive that 13.5 you're telling me about! I think I'll stay stock until I learn to pull all the potential from my car.. then go from there..

Just fyi, Im in no way telling you to powershift. I think you can drop tenths with very quick near perfect lift throttle shifting. Actually, because you said you didnt feel comfortable grabbing 3rd, Id advise against powershfiting, because if you miss a gear its hello rev limiter-HARD. Practice perfecting the lift throttle shift. Remember everybody has fast hands, but you need to have equally fast kick down on the clutch, and get off of it faster. IMO fast clutch kick down and getting off of it(clutch) just as fast makes a great shifter.

Yeah I think thats where the problem lies more so than the shift. I'm not used to his incredibly high clutch. I needa figure out exactly which points I have to go down and up till. I wish I could adjust it.

Edit: wasn't there some kind of fix someone came up with a while back? To where you can make it only go as far as it needs to in order to disengage and you wouldnt be pushing it farther than neccessary? That would be WONDERFUL!

This is personal preference but-I like the high clutch, you know why? Cuz I dont have to kick the clutch to the floor to shift smoothly. I only kick 1/3 to 1/2 at most and Im getting off of it. Try that, along with faster shifting and you wil be really set. Be sure to post the results, I know you will do better
