NA Sucks
I bought this car about 2-3 weeks ago. I was very pumped just by looking some people with simple bolt ons where able to run mid 13s @104-107. This is a long post so bare with me.
First time I went to the track I did 14.3@97.8 and 14.4@98.3. That was bone stock with the all seasons on it. Now you might think those times suck but take into consideration that I weigh 375lbs
So on average my Z is heavier than most by at least 175lbs. I also dynoed it at our shop and made 226whp/225tq(dynojet sae).
Ok so now I start modding. I got cheap and decided I wanted to try ebay top speed n1 exhaust and ebay test pipes. Put them on and went to the track. 14.3 and 14.4@98 both times. Almost 99mph. ****ty. Also note that at this point I had 19" wheels with KDWs on it.
I got sick and tired of the top speed n1 and replaced it with a Greddy Evo 2. I also added a ebay cold air intake that day (identical to aem). I dynoed that day and made 231.78/228. I thought that was pretty pathetic gains for those 2 mods.
I was pretty frustrated so the next day I grabbed one of the UTECs we had in stock and put it in. Our dyno was being funky so I could not use our dyno. Went down the road to another local shop which has a mustang dyno which now with its latest software reads kind of low. First pass with the UTEC base map for my mods it made 213whp/205tq. After a while it made 224whp/220 tq. I was not very impressed.
Went to the track that night and ran this.
.011
2.264
6.180
9.349
78.19
12.060
14.348

I was pretty damn pissed. That is the same MPH that I did stock. I let my friend drive it to compare. He weighs about 220lbs. He ran
.355
2.305
6.190
9.320
79.26
11.993
14.249
100.04
Exactly as I knew it would do. 2mph higher than me as that ha salways been the case when I let somebody average size drive my car. So the car still sucks. I noticed above 6700 sometimes it would hesitate. Turns out it was knocking.
The next day I figured it must be that ebay intake and I was getting what I payed for. So I installed a Injen SP986 CAI and had it retuned. Now it made 230whp/232 tq on the same mustang dyno.
Went to the track first pass with me driving
.233

11.923
14.185
99.96
I was pissed of course. almost 2mph more than before but still I would expect it to do 102mph with me driving.
I let my friend drive. This one was about 170lbs or so. He has trouble getting off the line.

****ty of course. I mean I know florida is humid but these mods should equal at least 104-105mph with average weight drivers. I was planning on doing headers, plenum, and cams but the gains just don't seem to be worth it at all. What are you guys that are trapping 103+ na doing. I'm going to dyno my car on our dynojet Monday to see exactly how much it is making but judging by its power I would imagine not more than 240whp. That is pretty damn low for my mods which if you did not catch by the end are:
UTEC
Injen CAI
Ebay Test Pipes 2.5"
Greddy Evo 2
285/35/19 in the rear KDW
Hotchkis Springs
375lb driver
No spare tire.
Another thing to note if you question my driving. I can drive better than most. I never lift to shift either.

NA doesnt suck, sorry to say but Im gonna be brutally honest, you suck and so do your friends who are driving your car. I hate when people think because they powershift or think they can, they can drive. I read a funny post on here said soemthing like "guys and driving are like guys and sex they all think they're good at it" that my friend is you. In reality a $hitty powershifter will run slower times than a "lifter" and burn/glaze the clutch/fw in the process. Get more seat time and you will without a doubt improve, but not if you have the "I can drive mentality" cuz even if you weighed 500lbs you could cut a 2.0 60ft, and your no where near that. Keep practicing, and hit 13's. And stop letting your friends drive, what good is it if they run 13.3 if you cant do it....
Trust me when I say that I'm not a bad driver. I have owned/driven more cars than most people in a life time. From 11second cars to 16 second cars. I'm not talking ET here. I know the ET can be easily dropped. I'm talking MPH. MPH shows how much power you are making.
Also the subject was not meant to be taken literally. Just more showing my frustration. The car obviously is making much less power than you where when you where NA.

Well honestly man I know even the differences between 2 dynojets can be huge. These days with tolerances the way they are I dont believe we have factory freaks like the old days, so I dont blame your car. Some tracks are faster than others, maybe you've gone when conditions were bad. BTW I know guys who drive 10 second cars who couldnt grab a gear to save their life, or drive anything without full blow suspension set up for drag racing and an automatic doing the shifting for them, so thats irrelevant to this. I do believe your car is capable of good times, Your friend hit 102mph your car is making decent power. Like I said keep practicing o rget a set of DR's and YOU can run 13's. How many miles on your car? What do you shift at?
40k on my car. My friend went 102 because with him the car weighs 200lbs less. From 102-107mph we are talking a good amount of power. I started shifting at 7000 with the utec but found that it goes slightly more mph shifting around 6700.
As far as the differences in dynos. I hate dynos, which is why I use track MPH to know how good I'm doing. Going 1 almos 2mph faster than stock with 2k in mods is pathetic.
I'm going to keep going to the track obviously. Since February 4th when I bought the car I have gone to one autocross and every test and tune session. So I will obviously get better ets over the next few weeks. However I doubt they will affect my mph much.

Just a suggestion-my car at around 40K started running slow. I was consistently 2-3mph down on my trap @ the track and running slow 13.3-13.4's. Then one of my spark plugs failed-the grounding strap melted/curved down to the electrode. When I changed them they looked horrible, like they were 100K miles old, and Nissan says they are good for 105K miles, thats BS. Check your plugs replace with some stocks or nice Iridiums. I didnt have a chance to run my car NA again after the plug swap but I def regained my power back. Just a thought. BTW your 19's are taking power away on the dyno, you cannot compare your dynojet #'s to mine, way to many variables. You really dont know how down on power you are. For now dont use weight or your car as an excuse, work on hitting a 2.0 60ft, then see what you run. I guarantee you wont be complaining then.
I wasn't comparing dynos I was comparing mph
I know what you mean though. I don't compare dynos.
I will check the plugs. I was going to put in Iridiums next oil change but I will go ahead and do that tomorrow. What is a good gap for NA?

I think good for NA and FI is .035 iirc. Thats what I ran a short while NA and now FI. And again-you cant compare mph that I pulled in MD to what you or your friend pulled in Orlando-you can get an idea but not very accurate. You cant say "my cars best is 102-you did 107, I can drive something is wrong with my car", see what Im saying? I always get PM's asking if I cheat if I spray or lie about $hit, guys with same o rmore mods cant duplicate my times and get pi$sed, its just not the right way to go about things, keep running guaranteed you'll improve. And btw try runnign your stock wheels over your 19's @ the track. Run no spare, and 1/8 tank of gas. Shift at redline every gear and report back. Play with tire pressures to launch well, 27psi worked best for me on stock tires... good luck

Im sorry I must of missed it do you have an 06 revup? If you do shift at 7000, if you have a 287motor with a raised rev limit shift at 7000 on the 1-2 shift, then stock redline (6600) after that.
alberto, just a tad harsh on him to get your point across on the first post, i ran next to him and he was a really really nice guy, but i understand both of your frustrations, these cars are weird, i can only trap 104 NA here in orlando, thats with no computer work, i know i can drive too, geovannie works at titan motorsports, im sure you have heard of it, so he has been around some nice cars, not sticking up for anyone here, gets some nice DRs for your car and take it back to the track, i think trapping 102 is ok for what you have done so far, dont give up, its all about figuring stupid **** out, remember we are in Florida at one of its worst tracks, it is hard to compare our times and mph with other people on this board, now if alberto could run 107 NA at Orlando Speedworld, lol right !!! jk this track sucks !!!!
Yeah geovannie I was too harsh at first, I apologize. I think the 19's (how heavy are they btw?) and the 60ft's alone have a huge impact on the times. I do believe he will go 13's just needs more seat time...NA doesnt suck!
thats why i like my nitrous, cause i am building a fast NA car, just with a little extra when i want it, my stock 18s are 56 pounds with potenzas on them, so i doubt the 19s with tires are more than that, i couldnt believe how heavy my stock rims were, his car looked good as hell, who cares how fast it was>???

GEO, let me tell you something.
If you want to run 13's in speed world, swap to your stock wheels PERIOD. Your 60' times can improve as well.
I have also ran low 14's and could not break the 13 second barrier with my 19" wheels.
I would take Alberto's advice about switching plugs/tune up.

Yeah I will be going next week for sure with the drag radials on the stock wheels. If next week I'm not convinced I will spray the **** out of the car and put on some real slicks.

Lets be realistic here. An experienced racer can get 13.80 seconds out of a stock 350 Z. And inexperienced racer cannot. Unlike the street racing forum, this is no place for, umm, embellishment. Compulink Startrack always tells the truth. And the truth is that your 60-foot times could use some improvement. I see a time slip where you pick-up 21 mph in the second 660 feet. Good. Get that 60-feet down to 2.0 seconds and you are running a better than 14. 0 second Z. Practice.
First fix the driver then the car.
Hehe you guys keep pointing at ET. I have never questioned the cars ability to run 13s. THE MPH IS WHAT HAD ME KIND OF DISAPOINTED.
Some people have pointed out that with better 60fts the car will mph more. In my past cars that has never been the case. It does the same or slightly less but never more.
