I'm running in the 11's and NEVER hit the rev limiter because I know how to drive and know what it takes to get there.

The rev limiter is there for a reason, if you take it off on a stock block you will blow it by overrevving.

learn how to drive and shift and you won't have to worry about a rev limiter
and learn some manners
Sorry- not trying to offend you and I know I need more practice. I only wanted to disable the rev limiter because it is dangerous when I hit it 1 out of 5 runs or so. I am not trying to shift in the redline or kill the motor. I am shifting before redline, however sometimes the rev limiter comes on and sometimes it doesn't.

Wait-your saying you dont hit 4th in the 1/4? You just bust through the traps in 3rd? You should be finishing in the middle of 4th gear, and no way you should be hitting limiter in 4th. So exactly what are you doing?

I asked the same question in my first post, but got no response. How do you cross the finish line in third gear? Hell how do you get third gear to 100mph plus?

BTW 4th gear tops out at 112mph at 6600rpm's, not 104. 3rd gear tops out at 88mph...

I suppose she wasn't clear enough in the first post; sorry about that. signZ isn't trying to go through the traps in third, but instead in fourth. The issue signZ is having is just with hitting the rev limiter, due to the weird programming her ECU seems to have.

Do all of you (or any of you, for that matter) notice that when you let off of the gas, that the engine rpms still want to climb for a brief instant? That is part of her problem.

Never heard of this issue-and not likely. Stock Z's dont rev fast enough to where you cant grab a gear without hitting rev limiter, thats just lazy shifting.

Not if you do it occasionally but dont sit there and hit it all day.

Maybe lazy shifting, but how come I can take the car out on the highway to play with it and bring the car just to redline in 3-4th gear without actually hitting the rev limiter? Just curious.

To clarify- I am shifting from 3-4th before the traps. I don't always hit the rev limiter. I know I need more practice...

So at what rpm is everyone shifting?

no problem.
that's why I suggested to use the light at lower rpm's for daily driving, that way it becomes second nature to you once you run at the track since you have to focus on so much more there.

as a rule of thumb you want to shift 200 rpm before the rev limiter hits.
I have noticed that the limiter is not always at the same location on every z...my first Z had the limiter at 6600 (if memory serves) were my 05 z had it at 6800 (at least on the tach which we thought might have been off) after the technosquare reflash it's at 7100

I dont understand what you are experiencing. Some Z's as stated will hit redline at a displayed 6600rpm (like mine) others at a displayed 6800rpm. Regardless look at the tach when the limiter hits and dont go that high again. Your limiter wont change on you, and your tach wont either. It will not hit at 6500rpm's one day then hit at 6800 the next. Pay more attention to what you are doing and you'll be fine.

I agree with this.. I think she's not looking at her tach for the 3rd to 4th shifting and she hits the limiter.

Hers is a 2005 287hp, and I bet her rev limiter is right at 6600 just like mine. She just has to make sure to keep her eyes on the tach, and shift right at 6500.

Driving on the street and at the track are two different things. At the drag strip (at least for me) I am much more tense than winding it up on the street.
Make sure the VDC/TC are off, shift a little before the redline (300 rpm or so) since the revs continue to climb a bit while you shift and could hit the rev limiter.

As noted it is a lot of practice to be a good drag racer. Your times are better than most stock Z's.
