Default What Drag Radials?!

Alright guys i'm extremely new to drag racing ( only been to the strip 3 times)...however I am now hooked and want nothing more than to kick everyones *** at the strip, BADLY. I know the Z is made for the track and not for draging, but this drag racing thing is a lot of fun.

So far I can't get anything better than a 9.3 at 78 mph with a 2.3 or 2.2 60ft. The strip is kinda slippery and i lose traction in 1st and 2nd. So i've decided to skip all that practicing on my 60ft mumbo jumbo and going straight to radials (tired of getting smoked by lesser cars that hook better than i can). I must have gotten like 60 runs and i just can't hook, this strip has a rep for being a dificult place to hook with street tires

So i was looking online on tire rack and noticed some bfg's, yokohamas and michelin radials and thinking of slapping them on my rear 18's. I don't have any stock or seperate rims to mount them on and these rear radials are pricey going for 600 plus dollars for a pair ! add the rims and my bank account takes a hit.

Whats the best thing to do? Buy the drag radials and mount them on my 18's and just drive them around the street as well and hope to get 10,000 miles out of them or what lol ? Don't know what to do...just want to start kicking some *** ASAP! BTW ...will be looking to professionaly install a 100 shot of nitrous in about a month

Here's what i'm doing and this will help you in the drag race game. Try and find a stock set from 03 and up that are 17inch if you want to save on the price of 18's. Well anyway we cut the front rims to to about 4.5 inches wide. What that does is give it a stock look and they work like skinny's up front. Then we take what we have already cut from the front and add it to the rear rims. Then you can put a good wide drag radial in the back.

Also the skinny rims up front will help you with weight transfer. Your front end will come up alot better . If you can get rims for like 450 or so would be ideal. Mickey Thompson drag radial's are the best by far. You can pick those up for about 169.99 each. And they will hook just as hard as a slick. Hope that helps.

do you guys think it's extremely stupid to drive around in these drag radials with my aftermarket rims? Or do people do it all the time? If i did this will the drag radials wear out after 5,000 miles or something? also where is a good place besides tire rack to get some nice drag radials? I want to make a decision and purchase by monday.

Bro why don’t you try getting the FD wheels (93 non reinforced) weight only 13 pounds and some MT's ET street. I just bought this set up for 400 shipped to my door each wheel with tire weight 37 pounds. I think that pretty good compare to the 18 with DR's that might weight in the neighborhood of 50 to 55 if im not mistaking.

ET Streets on 16" 300zx rims

try to get a used set if you're on a budget. If not, get 15" Weld Draglites and 26"x10.5 full slicks from summit. If you do have brembos tough, 300zx wheels will do the job with some ET Streets.

Too bad they don't make 16" full slicks

I dont think i'll be able to find a pair of 300zx rims any time soon. I'm leaning towards just buying some bfgs or hoosiers and mounting them on my 18's and then find some differant cheap 18's later on and putting the drag radials on those.

I wish i could find a place that i can go to or call that will have a pair of drag radials and a cheap pair of rims and have them mounted by no later than this friday.

I just pulled the trigger and bought 2 bfg drag radials ...for 200 bucks each. The sizes are 265/40/18.

anyone know the best place to buy 2 rims with no tires that are nice and light? i was hoping to find some oem 18's for a cheap price but i can't see any in the marketplace section.

You have these on your car as a daily driver? how many miles do you think you can get out of them? I really want to put them on my car as a daily driver but i dont want to waste them and wear them out on the street in a couple of months because i have them on for daily driving puroses. Would you think it 's ok if i mount them on my aftermarket 18's?

Tons of people run them on their daily driver on 17s and 18s. My buddy's 295-35-18 BFG DRs lasted about 4500 miles of HARD street driving and lots of street racing, drag racing, and general automotive tomfoolery with 470hp to the wheels in his 350z.

I've got 17" Nitto DRs on my car w/ about 400ish whp (not a 350z) with about 1000 miles on them and no noticeable wear yet.

I will have mine on monday. They are being made right now. It's a pretty quick turn around. But the mickey's lasted me about 9000 miles. I drove normal except when pushed . In the rain they are not to hot. I have plenty of cust. that do drive on their's all the time.
