Default Cams and the 1/4 mile

Ive seen excellent trap speed on here, 105-107, but all the cars were with stock cams. How come nobody with a full NA 350 runs the 1/4. Ive seen several dynos of 280-296whp, but no 1/4 times.

All you camd Z's I wanna see some 110 traps!

106 stock cams, the reason is........ the cams arent easy to put in, it requires removing the whole front timing cover, lots of other stuff and takes close to 8 hours. so if you get that deep in the motor, might as well replace the bottom end. if you have that kinda money, well might as well go FI... see where i am going with this.

it will happen. my car in the cold would trap close to 108-109 for sure. i am trapping 106 in florida with 80-85 degree weather last week.

cams are pretty expensive, and when you add it all up, its way more then a good nitrous set-up. Kinda sad if you think about it.

Em-effer, there are a couple of tracks in N.Y., you could atleast go out and get a trap speed for your car. I know it would be hard to get a good ET on street tires, but a good trap speed is just as well for some of us.

With a pop charger, plenum spacer, test pipes, and drag radials I trapped 105mph with a 13.4 ET. I now have pulleys, headers, y-pipe, exhaust, and a UTEC to tune it with. If I don't hit 12's N/A I may opt to get cams.

Integrity, do you perhaps feel that just going FI may have been money better spent, or do you just prefer an N/A powerband?

This is fun for me, ya know? Exploring all the different aspects of the car. I do not prefer N/A over FI... its just that I want to own one of the few 12 second N/A cars before going and getting the spray or the twins. (BTW - I feel that ANY money spent on a car is a waste. To me, its an entertainment expense... not an investment.)

That's my problem. I'm only doing 1.9s on the DRs. I got the brake fuse mod, but I still find burnouts a bit tough to do in this car. Perhaps I should pick up a set of line locks? I'll need them in the future for sure.

107mph NA trap speed here with around 3220 race weight at the time, passenger seat in, power steering, ac in tact, bumper support in tact (I mention this because I knowe of a few NA Z's running 12's that have done this) all I took out was the tools/spare. Consistently ran 106mph, unfortunately I never ran 12's due to the weaksauce 1.96 60ft on my 13.1 runs...Id love to take a Z with full bolt-ons, headers, cams and a nice tune down the 1/4 on a cool night, I guarantee 109-110mph traps...

i agree that ANY money spent on a car is a waste. i have way to many other important things to spend my money on that makes me sleep better at night. i just recently got such a great deal on my friends car that i couldnt pass it up. i will just grab the TT and built motor out and make the car stock as fast as i can and just about break even with the mods i am selling of it so it doesnt cost me anything. now that is almost an investment, but i dont see it like that.

yeah i wish i was in MD, i heard the tracks there are just way faster than the rest of the world. im stuck here in high humidity, high heat town, Florida..... the tracks in MD are actually 15 degrees sloped downhill from what i hear?!?!?

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better about your power/weight ration and traps

Dude, the z isnt a drag car, thats why you dont see that! The z was built to drive corners, its not that fun going straight unless you have mad power. Just my opinion.

Mario, honestly, what car is built from factory, to be a drag car. The only one that comes to mind is an SRT-4. Other then that, no car is really built to be a drag car. Honda didnt build the Civic to be a drag car, thats for sure, you just build a car to be that!

I cant wait to go to the damn track. If it wasnt for my stupid 3rd gear grind, i'd be there. I really would like to compare my driving to you guys!

+1 on the what car is made to be a drag car from the factory!! i have simple bolt ons, drive to the track and run high 12s NA right now, i have fun everytime. there arent too many cars that can do that. the majority of the cars at my track run > 13.00. i think with a few more modifications, we will all be pulling low 1.4s 60 foot times and laying down really really nice times

will you please put up a list of cars that are made to drag race??

Buy a 350Z. Install aftermarket cams. Go to the dragstrip and post time slips here.

in my opinion, drag racing is for cars that cant turn fast. I dubbo....for me the straight line speed doesnt do it for me unless your in the 12's like the guy above....doesnt it get old?

Mario, drag racing requires more raw skill than all other forms of motorsports combined!!! Oh yes, it's true!!!

The macho man I-can-pee-further-than-you attitudes should tell you that much.

The mustang GT has a solid rear axle and an engine and suspension tuned for digs because the engineers had boat pulling in mind.
