Default Drag Setup for '07

Just wanted to share with you guys what I'm looking at for a drag setup for next season:

MT ET Street 28.00 x 12.50-15

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

I currently have Nitto 555R (275/40-17) on Cobra-R rims...This effectively gave me a top of 4th gear speed of 109.48mph...

The MT ET streets that I linked to above are approximately (318/52-15)...This would effectively give me a top speed of 119.5mph in 4th gear. To put it all in perspective, this setup uses 8.9% less revs/mile than the Nittos.

The fact that I would no longer need to shift into 5th would definitely help my ET--since I was trapping at 111-113mph, a shift into 5th was required (which cost me 0.1s or 0.2s on my ET). This new setup, I believe, will save me a couple of valuable 0.1s on my launch as well... I believe it will also help improve my trap speed as well by 1 or 2 mph...

If you guys can poke any holes in my theory, I'd like to read what they might be... The only information I haven't been able to obtain are the weights of each tire for comparison....

Also a recommendation on very lightweight 15" rims would be appreciated. I don't know of any good brands that manufacture a lightweight 15x10 rim.

28" wont fit wthout extensive fender modification. Most guys have returned 28" slicks. Just go with a 27", or consider a 3.3FD and 26" slick...

Even an 8" wide wheel is enough for a 11.5" wide slick, everybody pudges these. I dont think Ive ever seen a wheel wider than 9" with a slick on it. Mine are 8-8.5" wide, 11.5" slicks and are fine...you dont need to follow the width specs as much like on a street tire, trust me

wow, very good information! the less rotational mass, the better...even if it means using a narrower rim.

Thanks alberto!

I'm very seriously considering a 3.3 FD swap at the moment....... i found someone local to me, but he's got 40k on his Z; I have 15k. It's something maybe worth looking into...I will get those 0.4s off of my ET!

well, i know julian couldnt fit 28 x12.50 on his car, i am putting et drags (slicks) on mine, i dont know if they are the same specs, but 28x9s is about all that would possibly fit.

good luck either way , always good to see people drag racing!!
