Default 13.3 at 106mph and the Axle carnage :(

This past weekend went to the track with the slicks again

Met up with Alberto here at Mason Dixon in Hagerstown MD. My first run i ran a 13.5 at 105mph and my second run i ran 13.3 at 106mph. Both of my 60fts are horrible for running on Slicks ( Im a bone head ). I was launching at 5000rpms and had the drivetrain preloaded but still would bog off the line. SO the third pass i decide to launch at 6000rpms But i made a big mistake, forgot to preload the drivetrain. So i dump the clutch LOL and SNAP. and there i sit. The Anouncer guy was having a field day with my misfortune. He had all kinds of jokes lined up. Im sure Alberto could chime in here

Got it back together today, only took 45mins to get the part off and the new one on. Not a bad install at all. SO if it happens again im not too worried.

Here are a few pics of the day and the carnage. Im still happy with the time, its a improvement over my best and i increased my MPH.

The pic of the blue 350z and the civic is of Alberto's car.

Alberto did get a video of the 13.3 run, so maybe he can get that posted for me

Good times before the snapped axle.

So when you snapped the axle, you were basically fully staged, waiting for the green light with the clutch all the way to the floor? Light goes green and then you dumped it?

Yeah, kinda like that. First two passes i was thinking straight. Third pass i was staged up beside a 9 second LOUD as hell muscle car. My mirror was shaking bad, Hell the whole car was shaking bad from that beast. Live and learn huh

Its all good,

Only costed me $160 to fix it. Not too bad for my stupid mistake.

I had a pipe dream right before i dumped the clutch. I was picturing my front tires coming off the ground and riding a whiley through the 1\8th. Then i woke up to a SNAP!!!!!

Good times

Thanks again for the slicks Bobby and Jermey

Yep, did the work myself. I try to do everything on the car myself. I have learned alot since the purchase of the 350z.

Wow-that broke the shaft, impressive

Todd's car def runs strong. With a 1.760ft he'd be right around 12.9's, only a matter of time tillhe beats my NA time and takes the crown...Todd I have yet to get the camera from my friend, Ill grab it ASAP and try to makethat vid of your runs, although he is out of the area for the next few days Ill get the video up

edit-it was the drivers side right? You only replaced that side I assume?

Well I'll know who to call when I snap mine I would need to break 5 stocker sets to pay for a DSS level 2's. I just cant justify that or drag race that much...

Preloading the drivetrain a little bit removes some of the shock from the system. If you just dump the clutch all that shock goes right to the weakest point of your drivetrain. So by applying just alittle gas and depressing the clutch just enough to keep you from moving helps reduce the amount of shock to the system.

If for some reason you launch at a high RPM and are running slicks and have NOT preloaded the drivetrain ( see pics above )

Hope this help, i am by no means a expert though

are you using stock clutch?
When i had the 05 transmission, any preload of the clutch would cause it to stick. With the newer 009 transmission its FAR better and it bites real hard when warmed up.
