Not your average newbie question
Let me start by explaining that there is NO legal motorsports in Israel, so for years everything we did was way way underground - basically organized street racing.
A few months ago the goverment passed a law allowing the beginning of what eventually will be the Israeli equivalents of NHRA, SCCA & FIA... and all of a sudden we went from being huligans & outlaws to being legitamite "athletes" =
race drivers.
we still have no drag strips or timing equipment ... but we are doing our best , we rent a private airfield every few weeks to practise our new sport - http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...23748436280653
as you can see we still have a human starting system
and a very safisticated finish line photo finish camera to dispute any false claims, we still dont have any kind of safety equipment - but at least we are off the public roads
and keeping the track as "sterile" as possible.
NOW to my question, seeing as I have one of the five 350Z 's in my backward country, and the only one of those that actually is used properly (the others just sit outside beach front coffee shops all the time) and in two weeks will be my first drag race with her, i need some tips on launching & shifting and what to expect from my competition.
Mine is a 2005 Ani Edition, 6 speed manual completely stock on street tires. I will be up against other factory stock cars = an EVO 8 , STI, 911 carrera 2 & maybe a fwd civic type R.
Im usually more of an autocrosser & twisty road freak, so Im not really too concerned if I win or lose - but I want to give a good fight and "represent" - so :
1) should I do a short burnout to warm the tires?
2) at what rpm should I launch?
3) at what rpm is the mosty efficient shift point for drag racing?

Great that you are taking the initiative to set-up a drag strip.
The questions that you are asking have been answered a dozen times here. The problem is that your circumstances are unique: primarily no staging pad preparation. So your technique will be similar to street techniques.
Another problem that you will find is assessing the results of different techniques. There is no 60-foot times.
My advise is not to waste time reading advise. Get out there and practice.
