Default 01-13-07 Timpslips

Observed at: Tucson Davis Monthan AFB, Arizona
Elevation: 2703 ft / 824 m

Weather was cold, 45 deg. with a nice headwind

Well today was the first day the track opened after the New Year vacation..

I went ahead and bought some Cobra-R wheels and they came with some Nitto 555r's. I have seen mixed reviews about the tires and I really dont have any comment on them as I know I am a VERY inexperienced driver. I tried to do burnouts but it just DID NOT work out.. After like the 5th run I called Jeremy and he gave me some tips AND told me to pull the brake light fuse at the drivers side panel.. I did that and burnouts were alot easier.. I just had no idea about the fuse...

When I launch, I run into ALOT of wheel hop.. Jeremy said I need to not let the clutch out so fast as I just DROP it bigtime.. Let it out easier but dont think about it or else you will burn the clutch.. Well I still struggled a little bit and the 60' times werent the greatest but I think I am learning things every time I go!

I ALMOST made 13.99... I was so bummed, yet really excited I did better than last time... 14.070 was my best time..

I know if I get the 60' time a little better, tune the car just a little more, and actually learn how to drive the 1/4 mile, I can get waaaay better times...

I posted my best 3 timeslips..

The car is running strong picking up 23 MPH in the second 660 feet. 2.1 seconds is OK. I see room for improvement in the first to second gear shift. Still, 14.0 seconds for a G35 is impressive. Nice driving.

BTW you drive a manual. Removing the brake light fuse will do nothing for you.

Sig updated..

The car is running REALLY strong.. The tuning I did from my first 1/4 mile runs till now have def. improved and I can tell she is happy

What I need to work on is my burnouts with the Nittos and launching..

I might just ditch the Nittos and get myself some MT slicks.. I know thats not going to solve my problems but at least I will have a better tire.. Launching is going to be diff. for me as I just cant grasp the concept of letting the clutch out 'easier' so I dont get wheel hop.

Maybe it was just me but the burnouts seemed to be much easier when I did do this.. I cant seem to keep the car in place when doing a burnout.. it wants to move forward but then I push a little harder on the brake, then I bog down really bad.. I am thinking the Brembos dont help that matter well.. ??

What are you talking about... that is totally untrue. VDC will cut the power if you don't remove the brake light fuse or otherwise bypass it by means of a switch or whatever...

Your tires are good. Members run 2.0 second on street tires. Consider the temperature: 45 degrees. Not the best for traction. When the temperature is 70 degrees plus, 2.0 seconds is well within your reach.

BTW you may want to add your name to this list: https://my350z.com/forum/drag/233840-top-25-1-4-mile-times-for-tt-st-supercharger-nitrous-bolt-ons-stock.html

I agree that the Nittos you have are plenty for the mods that you have. You should just try different types of launching. Ive been practicing prelauding my drivetrain lately, and I think it will work really well once I have a good set of tires and the streets/track warms up. You lift up the clutch a little off the line, while holding the brake. You will feel the car move forward a little and you can feel that the clutch is gripping a little. You then hold your rpm at your desired rpm, but I would think anything below 3.5k isnt worth it, then you kinda let it out slow. You are probably kinda dumping the clutch a little still, thats why you have wheel hop. Riding the clutch a little more, wont necessarily burn it out quickly if done correctly. It just has to be smooth.

I know a guy that cuts low 1.7s on nittos in a stock suspensioned F body, they are plenty for your car trust me. Just need to get to the track again and get some practice on them and some runs in warmer weather. My nittos lose their effectiveness around 50-55 degrees so you were below what I believe to be their minimum effective temperature.

hey Kenk2, nice to see that you were able to take the Nittos out for their first test on your Z.

keep practicing -- get some consistent 1.9 and a few 1.8 60' times before you consider switching to a different tire. No need to spend big now.

you need to feather the clutch out all the way through 1st gear... dropping it will only cause wheelspin (or hop)

Dont be that hard on yourself though. Once the weather warms up a little, you will be that much better of a driver. Launching wont be as difficult.
