You can get it down quicker with a 3K+ launch. I am going to try some 5K rpm launches, once I get the clutch problem fixed. All I could do was 3K without the clutch pedal dropping to the floor.

VeeTec,

Please explain to us precisely your launching technique. I was roasting my tires for all of 1st and some of second and almost lost control of the car because I floored it from 2200 rpm off my launch. It was my first time at the track ever with a manual tranny Z and best 60ft was 2.3. Do you apply 50% throttle off the line then as soon as you grip floor it? whats your technique man...

i may be going back to the strip tomorrow

Thanks.

good times. looks like the HR is a strong motor, doing 13.6's pretty much stock. I can't wait to get back to the drag strip myself. I could use practice on the launches as well. That is the most difficult part with the manual tranny.

I really cant explain it too well but I pretty much floored it. The car didnt get much traction in first for few seconds but it gripped right before I was about to goto 2nd. Im going to the track 1 more time and try veetecs method and launch aroudn 5k. If my pedal gets stuck then I might become sad. My 06 had that problem...

I do a couple of little burn outs, then feel for traction, doing a brief test launch, before pulling up to the line. At this point, my clutch is hot, and the pedal is soft, so I have to launch easy. Hopefully that will be fixed with a new clutch.

Once up to the line, I wait until the tree is staged, then I bring the revs up to the level I want, and as the last yellow lights, I react, slipping the clutch, while holding the revs up, while going to full power as the car gets moving, and I can feel the grip. This happens really fast, unlike how it reads.

You have to slip the clutch really fast to get the best results, and knowing the perfect point for letting it out all the way comes with practice, and getting to know the feel of your car as it grabs for traction.

Watch this old video to get a good idea of what I am talking about. The clutch in the 04 held like a champ.

WOW, you had one nice car. It launched awesome. Which is not only attributed to you as a good driver, but a good track.

I need to launch a little quicker, so I can go WOT in first sooner. It sounds like you have no problem with that at all. I can tell though that your track is clearly a little better prepped then mine!

Thanks man!! How do you do a burn out/heat up tires? Do I really need to do that in 80 degree weather in florida?

Just bring the revs up high, close to the limiter, drop the clutch, and let them spin until you have moved up about two car lengths. Back up and repeat a second time. This should only take 2-3 seconds really, and it will heat up the tires, while cleaning off debris.

It doesn't matter what the outside temperature is, your tire temperature will not be warm enough until they have been put to use, from friction.

That method works too, just don't push the brakes too hard.

For street tires all you need to do is a quick, debris cleaning burnout.
