Default Drag Radial Width Size Help.

I'm looking to purchase some 17's or 18's wheel and I'm looking to find the best DR's I can use. The smallest I can see from BFG for 18's are 275 and that is to wide for the OEM 18's (G35). I see a 225/45/17 but not sure if the 225 width will hurt me. To bad BFG discontinued their 265/40/18 since that would fit the OEM 18's. I wanted to stick with this wheel size coz it will be my Snow setup for the winter.

What Tires did you guys run? I found this http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_86542_-1 but the minimum width is 7.5. OEM G35 17's are only 7". I called jeg and they said I should follow the Manufacturer spec. I'm running out of options here

I'm looking at the spec of the 265/40 18 BFG and it fit 8.5-(9.0)-10.0 Wheel Width Range. OEM 18's are only 8" I know people who ran this fine. Question now is I guess the Nitto NT555R Extreme Drag Radial should be fine on a 7" even though the spec is Spec Wheel Width: 7.5-8.0-9.0''.

Ok the only thing I saw there that will fit 8" width perfectly is the 3780R P245/40R18. I would prefer to get the 3782R P265/40R18 but that has the minimum of 9" width. Anyone has ran 245? Is there a big performance difference compared to 265+?

275 will fit on OEM 18's (G's 8.5"?), not rated, but capable and safe. You will experience slight premature wear due to less than ideal loading geometr causing heat , but how many miles were you planning on getting on DRs anyway. Are you trying to keep it OEM looking, if not go with some real forged Welds 15 inch and benefit with the huge weight savings in unsprung weight. They are the lightest wheel i think I have ever held, and this is an 8" width, not some Regamaster or Spoon 15x6.5 forging. Good luck

I'm getting some G35 OEM 18's for my Winter Setup and will be my Drag Setup in the Summer. I have my 19's that I use daily and would only use the 18's when going to the track. I believe the G35 18's are just just 8" and only the 2007 18's has the 8.5".

Any body know if there is a big difference between 265 and 245 in term of performance? I'm looking at the M/T ET Street Radials and If I can fit the 265 then that will even better, the 265/40/R18 ET Street Radials has a recommended Tire width of 9.0-10.0 though.

Assuming your car is not F/I, the 245 MT ET Street Radial can provide plenty of traction for you. I'm amazed at the traction that tire gives in the 255/50/16 size for a buddy of mine who runs low 10s, and 1.5x 60's, in his 600+rwhp Z32.

Do you have an adjustable suspension? If you're running 3 degrees of negative rear camber, that will not be helpful. It seems you are set on using your "winter" set-up for drag racing during the summer, but the large diameter is less than ideal if you really want to maximize your set-up. As others have said, a 15" or 16" rear wheel would be better. If you don't have Brembos, you can pick up Z32TT wheels in 16" for cheap and run the 255/55/16 I mentioned above. Also, FWIW, I run the Z32TT rear (8.5") in this one: http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...?item=ETStreet in 27x10.5 and have made 1.6' 60's as well.

EDIT: Z32TT wheels found -

Yes, but the Manufacturary state 7.5" as the minimum and most G35 OEM 17's are only 7". I sent an email to MT about their 265/40/R18 ET Street Radials if it will work with 18X8 (Suggested minimum width is 9"). Last email I got from them is to use the 3780R P245/40R18. My problem started when I found out that BFG discontinued their 265/40/18's

G35 17's are only 7" wide? Are you talking about a sedan?

350z OEM 17's are 8" wide in the rear. A set usually goes for around $300 to $400.

Shameless plug

Looks like you're running the ET Streets, not the ET Street Radials. What front tire are you using?

Isn't it best to keep radials with radials (front and rear)?

Yes, I run the ET Streets, and still mix radia/non-radial. It makes for a slightly interesting ride over the last 1/8th mile, but it's manageable. If I ever get serious about drag racing, I'll get a 15" rear wheel and a 16" skinny front. Even though you can, I don't drive to the track on my ET Streets. My friends drive to the track on their ET Street Radials, lower the pressure, make their runs, up the pressure and drive home.

I have been trying to buy a set of the Mickey Thompson ET Streets Radials and can't find any. Jegs had a shipment scheduled to come in at the end of January and then rescheduled to come in February 15th (today). I checked a while ago and it now says they will ship in 10 weeks. I guess they're popular.

I want to get a set of the 255/60r15 ET Streets Radials. I tried Jegs and Summit. Both have them on back order.

Yes, the Coupe are a little wider but only Nitto carry DR's that will fit the 17's with 245+ width. This is the reason I'm leaning toward the 18's coz there are more options with them. The widest MT Street Radial for 17X8 is only 205/40, with 18's I can get at least 245/40.
