Default 1st Time with the turbo

Well I final got a couple of runs in with the new turbo. This was the first time I have gone down the strip in my car with it being turboed. I am not to happy with what I ran. When I was na I ran several time with 9.2 times with trap speed around 77-79 mph. Well last night I was pulling trap times in the 80's and was spinning all the way through third gear. I only got to runs in and this is what I had.

Toyo T1R @ 30 psi (265/30/19)

1st run:
60' = 2.208
et = 9.023
trap = 82.648

this run with 18 psi

60' = 2.459
et = 9.298
trap = 86.590

Like I said this is the first run with the turbo. I still have a lot to improve on I know. I have BF T/A drag radials on the way. I know that there is a lot left in the 60' and over all numbers. I think that the drags will help alot. Any other suggestions.

These runs were at about 850 elevation and 75 degrees and about 30% humidity.

I would be happy as a kid with a new toy with a 86.5 MPH trap! But terribly disappointed with a 9.0 second ET.

You are getting good acceleration in second gear. You are NOT covering any distance in first gear.

I think, with practice, that you can manage a 2.0 second 60 foot time with any horsepower and any tires.

A 9.023 second quarter mile would be the world’s fastest 350Z.

stop flooring the car, quickly and smoothly accelerate on street tires...you should easily be in the mid to low 8's with that mph (really 7.80s)

This is what I was planning on doing next time out. You know the first time jitters had me matting the gas to the floor and spinning thru 3rd gear. All I need is practice and the mid 7's will come.

That mph is up there. My best 8th is 7.9 @ 89mph...you will be there soon.

I think you are spinning so much that you aren't getting the trap the car is capable of...I'd agree with the rest that the car is capable of low 8's mid 7's.

I ran an 8.5 @ 81 stock (HR though) so its definitely possible to best that with a turboed G, just have to get the tires hooked good before you bury the pedal.

These are your two biggest problems:

Toyo T1R (265/30/19)

and just so you don't think I'm an internet warrior talking out my ****, I have run 7.3 @ 100mph 1/8th mile in my Z32.

If you are going to expect to run a good time in a powerful turbo car, you need to entertain changing wheels at the track. MT ET Street Radials, ET Streets, etc., should be on your priority list. T1Rs suck, for all applications IMHO, as does the 30 sidewall on a 19" wheel for any straight-line application.

I have a set of BF G Force T/A drag radials for my stock 17" on the way. 225/45/17. They will not be here before I go to the strip agin though. I will give another try this thursday with the T1R and get in it slowly and see what I can do. I know that I can run alot better than I did last week. I have run 9.2 and 9.3 stock. I will part throttle until I get into third and see what happens.

Those BFGs will be much better than the T1Rs. I'm not confident that the 225 can hold your 377rwhp under full-launch, be certainly report back and let us know how they did. I am pretty happy with the T/A DR on the street (I use MT ET Streets for the strip).

Do you have Brembos? If not, you can get a set of Z32 TT rears that are 16x8.5 which fit a few of the MT ET Street (26X10.50-16 or 26X11.50-16) or MT ET Street Radial tires. I believe the FD RX7 wheels fit the rear non-Brembo as well. Otherwise pick up any set of beat 17" wheels with 8.5" - 9.5" diameter. I now guys that run 10s on the MT ET Street Radial sized 255/50/16, but if you wanted to grab a 17x9 or 17x9.5, you could go with the 275/40/17 or 295/45/17 ET Street Radial, respectively.

Congrats on the new times. It's a big adjustment with the power. I found that out first hand myself a few weeks ago. Part throttle is my new friend on the launches, otherwise it's just a smoke show lol.

60' = 2.208
et = 9.023
trap = 82.648

This is confusing...2.2 isn't 'that bad'... but your ET is bad and mph in the toilet.... were you getting off the line then sliding around/lighting the tires up again?? bogging?? missed a gear?

I was just lighting the tire up all the way down the track. I was trying to peddle it but it just kept breaking loose until I got into 4th. I will try again tomorrow night if the weather holds out. I promise you the times will be much better.

This was the first time at this track without being NA and it was a huge learning experience. This week I will not put the gas to the floor so fast. I will just ease into it.

Would 225sDRs be better than a 265 street tire? What would be an ideal size of DR for him 265? Or should he be going bigger yet 275-285 with 370-80whp?

Agreed on the car being able to do low 8's, high 7's with alot of practice and more importantly, sticky tires.

A little off-topic: wish we had ideal tracks in SoCal like many east coast tracks.
