Greetings,
I am in San Diego, went to Qualcomm 1/8 mile drag. I have no grip what so ever till mid 3rd gear.
my set-up:
power: JWT TT 530BB
Grip: 9.5 BFG's KDW II 70% tread left.
burn out before lining up every time.
how I start (set my idle) 1.75K rpm, and mash on it and i spin 1st, 2nd half 3rd. by that time a civic can pass me.
I know my tires arent the best. but is it really just the tire?
whats your drag skills like?

-Tires aren't designed for drag racing (especially with a TT) - get DR/slicks
-Tires aren't the right size for a 350Z with a TT
-No need for a burnout on street tires - just a quick chirp to clean the debris off should suffice and avoid the water box
-Without grip, you shouldn't be mashing on anything - gradually increase throttle (in all gears)
-Perfect practice makes perfect; practice reveals areas to be improved
-Work the clutch better
-Time slips would help us help you

When you're spinning off the line...that's not a bad time for our Z's.
Like others said...you gotta ease into it. Especially w/ TT.
+1 on the DR's....look at some Hoosiers or MT. Triple 5's (nitto) suck.
Just go out to the strip on a night when you can test your stuff and determine what is the maximum rpm you can rev to and still bite down. 2nd and third however you're gonna have to remember to ease into it or ease off the clutch (if you're using it) on the the shifts...or else you'll be at some good speed if you didn't spin off the line...and then losing traction at 2nd or 3rd is not fun at all. Trust me.
Good luck.

10 seconds for 1/8 mile isn't a bad time? That's horrible.
OP, again, refer to my post above and you'll do much better.

Ya it's bad...but when you're spinning off the line in a high 13 second stock car...it's not bad. Then again yours is TT'd so then is when it gets bad.
Seriously though...most stock f bodies and Mustangs are only pullin low 8's high 7's and most of those cars can at least hook pretty decent in stock trim. And they're putting more ponies down to the ground than a stock Z.
The Z is always troubled w/ traction.

Whether you are running 250 or 500 horsepower you are going to have traction problems. Adjust your technique to suit the tires and staging pad conditions. If traction is a problem lighten up on the clutch. The tires have to “bite” before hitting the throttle.
Fix the driver first then the car.

10 seconds at the 1/8 mile mark for a 13 second car is ridiculously slow, not to mention he's TT (which means he should be much faster, granted he knows how to drive down the strip efficiently).
As DavidV mentioned, fix the driver before anything else.
I have a low 7 second and on a good day a high 6 second '69 Mustang. Yes I realize there is a 2 second difference. But for a guy that's a newb (no offense OP) on the straights pulling a 10 second 1/8th while spinning the first three gears isn't bad. I've seen worse.
That's all I'm getting at. Chill bro. Just cuz I have a low post count and am a relatively new member doesn't mean you can run your mouth by calling my words gibberish. In other words...I'm trying to give him some words of encouragement and let the OP know he's not the first or the last to run an 1/8 of a mile 10 second run. Nor should it be embarrassing that he ran a 10 second 8th.

thanks for the comments guys, I have talked to many people and they said especially with the Z you have to start of like your at a light driving normally then accelerate. but I have been used to single turbo's on 2jz's engine and I remember revin' to like 3.5 4K and mashing it and I was good. is car is bad with traction, I wouldnt dare to speed on corners with this car. already spun out once. stock power.
I didn't mean to post in an offensive manner, so I apologize for that. BTW, timeslips and/or vids of your said 6 second Mustang?
All I was saying was that if you're spinning in any gear, your logic would dictate that letting off the gas is probably better than "mashing" it. Is it not common sense to back off when your car has too much power that it can't even grip onto the surface?
Encouragement is great, but things need to be brought to attention some times.
OP, you spun out with stock power, yet you decide to get TT for the car. You can't control your car in stock trim, what made you think you can handle TT?
Before you do anything else, you need to learn how to drive efficiently on the track/strip. Learn the characteristics of the car, the ins and outs, your personal abilities, your personal limits, etc. Until you have some basic stuff down, all you're ever going to do is spin the tires (wasting them), get horrible times, waste your time and money, etc. Driver skill is infinitely more important than however much the car puts down to the ground. Without the right driver, the car is useless.
Don't take my words personally, but take them as constructive criticism. You asked for it, so you got it. Good luck and keep us updated on your future visits to the track and your progress.
