Default New to the Z, questions about launching..

Hey everyone, didn't have much luck on searching for common launch RPM's

I have an 03' Touring 6MT, mods include Motordyne 5/16" spacer, JWT pop, and a Bassani true dual exhaust. I will most likey be running the stock rubber, Potenza SO3's. I am very familiar with the track, ran many cars there in the past. Going back with my new Z (haven't been to the track in 2 years) and I am curious what people are launching at.

I have ready 2000-3500rpm's, with my setup what would be a good starting point? Also, what are common shift points, tire pressure, and any suggestions on shifting from 1st to 2nd to prevent wheel spin.

Theres lots of info in this section that answers the questions you're asking. My advice is to go out and practice until you get it down.

Shifting - lift 1->2, can hold throttle or slightly lift for the rest.

I've been launching my car ~5,000-5,500 - but toasted the flywheel after 100 passes or so. Veetec said he launched around that same area in his 04, so you might use that as a reference.

There are too many track variances to give a steadfast rule though. Some nights I launch below 3000 to get the right 1/8th time. I watch my 330' and 1/8th time more carefully than anything else as they contain the launch and most important shifts.

Agree. Racers get to a point where they can judge staging pad conditions. Some days the pad is good for 2.0 second 60 foot times. Sometimes I cannot get 2.2 seconds with a prayer. Lanes are also different. Some tuner drags water to the starting line. You make judgements.

No one runs consistent times reading.

Advice I forgot to give, a quick burnout (maybe 3-4 seconds) is a good helper, it gets all the dirt and gravel off your tires and gets a clean section of rubber. Just don't burn too much of the rubber will be hot and not sticky.
