So, the axle shaft is completely broken, and the dealer is trying their best NOT to cover it claiming abuse. They do not know i was at the track, and I told them I went hard from a stop light.

WTF? Stock part is $1200... any recommendations for good aftermarket axle shafts?

I would just do your best to find a used one really. Find a wrecked Z or something. I believe Z1motorsports has parts cars. Get a little dirty though. Try and replace the axle yourself with friends. Save a few hundred dollars thats for sure.

You can find used ones in junk yards for $125 to $150, just make sure you get the correct side....

If you plan to go FI at some point and make big power, get the driveshaftshop.com rear axles. I have the 900hp axles and they are great. They make a set rated at 500 whp (level 2) and they run $799.99.

I plan on looking for a used one and throwing it in myself as of right now... depending on if I can even scratch up that much money... otherwise it will be a project for the winter time, and I will look into going aftermarket.

Still, this shouldn't have happened should it? This isn't a common problem for a 100% stock car (not even exhaust or intake) is it?

It's "shouldn't" have happened, BUT halfshaft breakage is caused by shock, not power. I broke a halfshaft back before my turbos because my foot slipped off the clutch pedal during staging at the track with slicks on. I haven't broken one yet with the turbos and I'm over 500whp now.

So to answer your question, a completely stock Z can break a halfshaft just as easily as a heavily modified one.

Do you know if the axles on a 350z and a G35 Coupe 6mt are the same?

I looked on the Dirveshaft Shop's web site and they don't list Infiniti at all.

So, I get to the line, and with very little experience launching, figure I will take it easy and go for the clutch drop... I revved to 2250 and dropped the clutch, only to be welcomed a wonderful jerk and pop. Of course, I know to pull to the side in case there are any fluids leaking (unlike the numb skulls running their Honda's ). Well, I try to go forward off the track, and no dice. The engine revs, clutch feels fine, and the speedo is going up as the engine revs...

So, i put it in reverse, and it moves, so I end up backing off the track, much to the enjoyment and sarcasm of the American Muscle crowd.

So, it seems I have blown my rear end. Shouldn't this have been able to handle the stock 300 hp? Was I a complete moron for launching it like that? What did I do wrong, or was it crazy circumstance?!
Wow I thought Cordova was sticking better this year...

All kidding aside that sucks man. I am very surprised it moves in reverse but not forward...any way to take it apart and fix/replace what broke rather than get a whole new setup?

You live in the QCA or further north? I know of a few places that can try to track down one from a wrecked vehicle.

I live near Sterling, so about an hour from the QCA.

You got a Z? I wouldn't mind getting a cruise together if I get her back out before winter.

Also, the whole half shaft is busted, right in half. So, if I can get just the shaft I will be peachy. I don't assume that there would be any further damage. I can't figure out why it moves better in reverse, but it sure isn't much.

It seemed Cordova was hooking better this last time around, until about the end of midnight mayhem, then it got cold and was sucking horribly. Were you there?

I live in Albany (so not that far from you)... I was supposed to head over to Cordova that night with a friend but his car wouldn't start so I spent the evening in Rock Falls helping him out... going to be there this weekend doing an Opti on his car....

I own a Z28 but if you ever seen a white Z28 toss you a thumbs out while you are out... it's me. The car is kind of hard to miss. (artic white, red il plates, light bars in front and back, and black rims)

I will ask around about the halfshaft... I might be able to locate one for you.

Oh yeah?! I was in Rock Falls too, lol. Who is your friend? I know alot of people with Z28's around Sterling/RF... you should come up the first Tuesday of every month to RF Culvers, we meet up there, just a bunch of car nuts and hang out, then go raise hell around town.

Sorry about the bad news. Several of out forced-induction members are running after market components after breaking the original. Just look for “I broke my rear axle” threads.

5 years of drag racing and hundreds of time slips. My rear axle is fine (knock on wood).

From the description of their 900HP Level 5 rear axles:
"Nissan 350Z Level 5 900HP Rear Axles
Description:This is our Level 5 system for the 350Z and Infinity G35 coupe."

It sounds like they are exactly the same. Han from Intense has the exact same axles in his G35 and I have them in my ZR.

Might have to roll up that way on a tuesday... that sounds like a good time.
