Let me tell you this car is seriously a work of art, the only flaw (not really a flaw) was that it was an automatic. I started to talk to the guy that owned it (Smart guy too, he owns a perfomance shop and slapped some of his shop stickers on it and uses it as a tax write off) and asked him if I may run with him. He said yes right off the bat but unfortunatly when we were going to run we had miss-counted and he ended up running against a Camero.
Long story short, it really didn't seem THAT fast or at least as fast as I expected. The track was only a 8th mile and he ran it in the high 13 secs
. Maybe because it was an automatic or because he didn't want to push his car too hard. However it left me wondering if a Z could have gotten a faster time.
Whats your guys' take on this?

When did you tape that??? Were you there yesterday??? Sounds like the same anouncer and I'm sure that was the GTR that was there yesterday. I only saw one other Z there besides mine but that one didn't run. Was that you?
All of you are talking like the automatic is a handicap for the GT-R. I guess all of the hardcore guys that can clutch down, shift from gear to gear and clutch up in less than 0.2 seconds are disappointed with the GT-R's 'sloppy' transmission. If the GT-R is anything like the Z, which we all know it is, it's probably got an engine break-in time, right? I remember when I got my Z, I waited to hit the break-in point and before I hit that point, I would've probably run high 20's.

It was a white GTR with some decals from his shop. I believe his name was David but not 100% sure. He looked hispanic, he had a 5 o'clock shadow going on. None the less, the car was a work of art.
Don't dog the GT-R's auto until you have driven it. After putting ~1000 miles on a GT-R the transmission is one of my favorite things about the car. It is amazing. This is not a normal slushbox auto, its an automated manual. You don't have a converter stalling up when you stab the gas - you are locked in gear. The shifts are very crisp and quick, though it doesn't jerk you or let off like the BMW SMG etc. Also, it keeps boost through the shifts unlike your normal MT
The 13 second 1/8mile part I won't argue with... if he was, then he was just cruising down the track. The reason? Who knows. After having launched the car in race mode on the street, I'm convinced the GT-R will match it's track times (11's 1/4mile) on street conditions. I am a Z owner and lover, but comparing a stock GT-R to a stock 350Z is laughable in my opinion, and this goes for drag, turns, braking, etc (though the price reflects that).

Yikes. This has been an interesting read. He averaged 34mph. A little tail wind, and I could do that on my bicycle. If he was breaking it in, why bother going to the track? If you can't run sub 12s in a new GTR, you shouldn't own one (or at least not have it at a drag strip).
