Default New GTR vs Z.....hmmmm.

I went to the track with some of my friends yesterday and as we were waiting to get our cars checked my friend spotted the new GT-R that was also getting checked to run.

Let me tell you this car is seriously a work of art, the only flaw (not really a flaw) was that it was an automatic. I started to talk to the guy that owned it (Smart guy too, he owns a perfomance shop and slapped some of his shop stickers on it and uses it as a tax write off) and asked him if I may run with him. He said yes right off the bat but unfortunatly when we were going to run we had miss-counted and he ended up running against a Camero.

Long story short, it really didn't seem THAT fast or at least as fast as I expected. The track was only a 8th mile and he ran it in the high 13 secs . Maybe because it was an automatic or because he didn't want to push his car too hard. However it left me wondering if a Z could have gotten a faster time.

Whats your guys' take on this?

13 second 8th mile? The Z could definitely do that.

-Yeah, of course the Z can do way better then that on the 8th mile.

-No, it's not B.S. as bogos as it might sound. It's the Irwindale Speedway my friend. Not some redneck dirt lot. You'll be surpised how many different types of "Exotic" cars you see just by driving on the 10 freeway.

- Yeah the GT-R only comes in auto, but I'm sure it would be a lot more fun driving stick though. Congrats on your new purchase though.

-Hahaha nah man he wasn't driving in reverse. I didn't get a chance to talk to him afterwords but I'm sure he didn't want to push his car hard. However, the car sounded like a damn muscle car! Best sounding engine I have ever heard stock. IMO anyway!

There are plenty around here with high to mid 13's in a 350 for 1/4 mile. I've ridden in the GT-R and believe me, it would eat a 350's lunch, auto or not, 3800 pounds or not. You don't feel the shifts, you just hear the revs change. All of which ignores the facts that neither car is a damned dragster, and I'll never figure these types of thread out as long as I live. :bangheadhere:

If the GTR ran the 1/8 in 13 seconds... My mother's Bonneville could beat it.

Based on the guy's times, it's pretty obvious that just because someone buys a GT-R, it doesn't mean that they know how to drive it. Either that, or he's just hustling you. If he shows up next week and wants to race for money do yourself a favor and decline.
