First time dragging the Z this weekend, need some advice..
Well im gonna take my Z to the drag strip this weekend. I have a lot of drag experience with my Talon low 12's high 11's but is AWD and my FWD GTI on nitrous, but not in a rwd car..
I have a few questions specifically if somebody could help me out. I'm running some ET Streets that are 25"...
During the burnout do you guys do it in 1st gear, or 2nd gear? Or do you shift during the burnout to get higher wheel speed?
The launch on street tires and ET Streets, what are you guys launching the car at? 3500RPM kinda thing? I know it depends on the tire and track prep but just to give me a starting point kinda thing...
Also When you launch is it a straight clutch drop, or is the clutch being slipped out slowly (like an AWD drag launch)? How about bind in the box? Anybody using the e-brake to hold the car and letting the clutch slightly out to build some bind before dropping it? (if you know what the term "bind in the box refers to?")
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm racing sunday and will post how it went in this thread afterwards.
My last pass down this drag strip involved my CBR600 and crashing at 126mph and 2 months in the hospital and 3 years of problems with my leg.. Needless to say I was in pretty rough condition. Hopefully sunday will go a little better...

You are an experienced drag racer, and will figure out the RPM-clutch quickly. Like all RWD vehicles, you must transfer weight over the rear tires before hitting the accelerator. It may sound like a 2 step process, but it happens in about 2 seconds.
I bracket race, and do not use the e-brake technique. Reaction time is too critical to be messing with the e-brake.

I'm gonna launch it like an AWD car to start (which is very tranny friendly) and see how it goes.

No it's just NA. I generally have always run Turbo cars in all my racing, but recently went to the boxster which was a joy on the road course, and now the Z. I like to drag and do road course, so having a car for both is tough. Turbo, S/C and nitrous are not ideal for a road course car (heat, reliability etc...)
I have a bunch of N/A mods so I'm hoping the car is capable of running low 13's so should be interesting to see what I make it run. I never took the boxster to the drag strip so I have zero seat time in a RWD car at the strip.

slipping the clutch worked for me.. I dumped my clutch at 3500 RPM's and got crazy wheels spin. My lil cubby has even popped open b4 while i was wheel hopping it was scary lol. Def ride it out. I had a 1.3 60ft with my KDW2 285/35/19 tires i'll dig up the slip if proof is needed

If the slip does say 1.3 it's an error. I had a time slip in my GTI read 11 seconds in the 1/4 mile but trap speed of 101mph (when the car did 13.1 @ 101) not 11's.. So there are errors once in a while...
Anyway tomorrow is the big day, I'll post my disappointing results tomorrow night hahaha...

So I embarrassed the whole 350Z community yeterday at the track hahahaha...
The best 60ft I could muster was 2.1 on my street tires. I didn't have the other wheels to use unfortunately. The best I ran was 14.1 @ 99mph wheel hopping the whole way through first and part of second. The track was sticky but it just doesn't seem to matter with street tires.
My Dad (Jime) ran 11.65@120mph at the track in his Automatc 4th Gen Maxima with VQ35 swap on Nitrous.
Oh well, there is always next time.

Jime's son has a 350z now....nice! I used to be a regular on .org back in the day.
As for the track...when you go back on sticky tires, burnout in second gear. (you'll need to remove the "stop lamp" fuse next to the dead pedal to do burnouts). As for launching you don't need to bind the drivetrain by holding the parking brake, but you do need to slightly preload it by holding the clutch right at the friction point. I usually launch @ 5500rpms and do a little quicker slip than an AWD launch, but not a full dump.
14.1@99 isn't bad for your first time out in the car. I think I ran 13.9@100 my first time out in my Z and eventually got it down to 13.6@103mph with more practice and good weather.
