Default New To the Nismo Family

Hello Guys I recently bought my 04 350z On Feb of this year. I went from a automatic honda civic to the Great 6 speed Fairlady Z. So What it basically comes down to is that i am a noob. unfortunatly so i just wanted to get the best answers to my questions so i came to the my 350z forum. My first question which it may completely dumb but i need to ask is.... What would be the best shift time when racing. I have been told that i could go over the redline which in my model the 04 is 6200 i belive but then i hear that you could only go over in the rev up models. Please help i really dont want to damage my motor. I have a stock motor beside my ingen short ram intake.

You can't go "over" in any year or model - rev limiter sees to that. Search this (Drag) forum, you'll find all kinds of info on where's the best shift point, etc.

Downshift into 2nd at 80mph... You'll get past the rev limiter.

What the fawk is wrong with people!?!

This **** owns a Z and doesnt even know the redline!!!??? LOOK AT THE TACH

Its 6600rpm's a-hole, shift there for max acceleration. Revups are 7000, HR's are 7500.

And its INJEN not Ingen, and for fawks sake go read 100 threads on these newb tips and practice until you burn your 1st clutch out. Only then will you run sub 14.5's...damn these kids getting into Z's is annoying.

Oh and how are you new to the Nismo family with a non Nismo Z and no Nismo parts? Im sure your Nismo stickers count for something though....

Ya listen man. Do some searching to start. There is a lot of info on this site. Use the appropriate section though too. This section is for drag racing only. Not my car vs. the world drag racing, like I took my car to the drag strip and ran etc. etc. etc. Congrats on the new car, and Alberto is right again. Its not a Nismo Z. Nismo is the equivalent to Honda Specialty Performance I suppose. They are a part of Nissan that manufactures performance parts for Nissans. Only this past year was the Nismo 350Z created. Go check it out. Its pretty cool.

Hey, you came back! I only have two things to say.

1. Always keep your Z clean. I can recommend a good detailer....

2. New guy has to buy...

Redline is limited by the ECU. Its about 6,600 RPM. You can bump redline by programming the ECU.

“Where do I shift?” is a common drag racing question. More important is how far does RPM drop between shifts.

You might short shift first gear depending on conditions. No point in taking the motor to redline if the car isnt moving forward.

So what kind of beer do you drink. lol thanks guys. question though i think i might need to post a new thread but as for as moding the ECU is it possible to mod the stock ecu? or is it better to get the UTEC from turbo XS?
I plan on buying the powerlab single turbo but not for a couple of months. What would you recomend? Also what do you guys think of the AAM Spec Angled Intake Plenum spacer planing on getting it. It has gotten great reviews????

I suggest you drive it completely stock for at least 1 year. Relax, enjoy it, go to a few socials and events, and just drive.

You can program the ECU or buy a piggyback unit. Again check the tuning forum.
