Default 1000hp SP 350z Launch = Carnage

Well, we took the car to slicks night at Great Lakes to see if we could get this car out of the hole on the 28" slick. We had the 2step/antilag working perfect, track was sticky, car felt awesome....

Nice 2nd gear burn out, and then went to launch the car (hit about 14psi) and pop. I barely even got a chance to slip the clutch, and it seems as though we have sheared the input shaft on the trans

Here is the vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGAFe-e6Mb8

Guess we'll see what we can do about building or making some upgrade parts for the tranny (if it's feasible/cost effective).

We're throwing in another trans (009) and turning the 2step down a tick to see if we can find a happy medium.

Anyways, enjoy the carnage

Chris

Why would you ever try to run the 6 speed on a 1000whp car

Because we could throw a TH400 in it and I'm sure run 8's, but I like to push limits, and see where failures occur. If you don't push it how do you know what it will take? Btw, we didn't have it set at 1000hp it was at about 800 or so for the first attempt.

That's the cycle of drag racing... beef up your parts until they don't break... then add power until they start breaking again...

Great work, guys!

^^^Hell yeah, keep us updated on how this all works out. Not that I will ever need or want 800+ HP, but it would be nice to know exactly whats needed to make a bulletproof trans and driveline, and additional Z33 R&D is NEVER a bad thing! Keep it up guys!

I'll agree with you on that....do you mind telling what you had the rpm set at on the 2 step for the launch

Mad respect for powerful 6 speed cars. Id take a 10 second 6 speed over a 9.0 auto car anyday, that is boring and requires much less skill...Better luck next time guys!!!

Do you have any pictures of the damage or is the trans not out of the car yet? I'm interested to know if the actual shaft broke at the splines, farther back on the shaft, or if you sheared the brazing on 5th gear that connects the engagement tooth ring to the gear itself. I'm really, really, really hoping it's the last thing...

good news, well breaking stuff is never really good news lol. we broke the diff and not the trans. I had the motivation to pull it off the trailer this morning to look at it, and well trans seems ok, but the diff, not so good

I have another diff going in and we'll be back at the track this week Maybe launching a bit lower on the 2step.

Coach, we launched at about 5700rpm on the above vid.
