launching an AT
So I recently got an 04 touring coupe w/ auto trans and this weekend for the first time I got a chance to play with it on a private road where I could open it up and practice launching it etc... anyways, I timed myself 0-60 from launch with the dashboard stopwatch and I couldn't get my time under 6 seconds.
I know the auto might be a little slower than the manual, and the touring is the heaviest trim, but it still seems like I should be able to get it to go a little faster... in the timeslips thread there are some 1/4 mile times that seem like they must be going faster than 6 seconds 0-60 to get those times.
I think my biggest problem is traction... I tried some different launch techniques, brake loading to 1k rpms, brake loading to 2k rpms, no brake load, etc... the wheels just spin really easy and if I dont mash it or I let up to stop the spin my time slows obviously.
I'm on the oem tires with 35 psi
any ideas?

In my auto, a 05 touring, I would launch around 2000-2200 rpms and I can cut consistant 2.0 60ft times with just a exhaust. I don't pull out any fuses and I leave it in drive
I think it is just a traction issue. The road was a private road on a family farm, its old asphalt, so its not as smooth as like a newly paved real road but I havn't been on a real track so i can't really compare.
When you launch at 2k rpms do you just floor it right away or do you ease into it? I found if I eased into it I reduced the slipping alot obviously but also obviously lost time... not sure which is better?
Counting 2001, 2002, 2003 is not going to cut it. You need a time slip.
Power braking (one foot on the gas - the other on the throttle) will be difficult. At some point the car will stall. You have no stall converter.

I have no idea what that quote means.

I smash it to the floor...you can search my post for time slips also....

Hold it at 2k and when you launch let go of the brake but keep gas pedal in the same position until you start moving a little then push it to the floor. Thats how I do it.
