Default Officially found limit of stock G35c suspension (flame suit on)

I know alberto and tom (coach) are gonna be all over me on this one lol.

just a little fyi. my car is the true definition that power means nothing in the 1/4 lol

so was at track yesterday, horrible prep (well it did rain for 2 days prior so can't ask for too much I guess). and I was on a 18in BFG DR.

Well for the track the tire wasn't enough. Could only muster a 1.9x 60' (buddy in a built 300tt was cutting same and he normally has 1.7-1.8s 305 MT DR, and another buddy in a supra on a full slick could only get 1.8's with the 2 step, normally sees 1.6s)

But beyond that, the car would "bounce" the whole way down the track. The squat of the stock suspension is damn near perfect, but not having control over rebound is FTL.....on 29.5psi of boost (so thats 7xxrwhp) the car was spinning the tires at 125mph going through the traps!!!!!! Thats cause, as the suspension would unload in the bounce it would spin spin spin.......little scary actually. was only doin 12's unfortunately cause of all the little things.

But I did learn the launch finally....so think I'm gonna do the suspension finally lol

the clutch (dxd southbend) is non-too happy now...but knew it was on its way out soon anyway too (already have it planned to be changed over winter..just hoping it lasts that long), it wouldn't let me shift "fast" and every couple runs the clutch wouldn't come up more than a few inches in 2nd gear, but when I tapped it with my toe it would pop up for the 2-3 shift.....

I'll finally change the stuff I should have done forever ago and get back out there....was never a drag racer, but 130mph in the 1/4 for any street car is pretty dang fast in my opinion lol

tom

Time slips make drag racing more interesting.

No shame in learning limits of your car, its parts or yourself.

Everybody has potential to be good at drag racing, with the right parts, and lots of practice you'll be good to go!

yea now I KNOW it has to be changed (honestly, for drag racing or not, I've known suspension work was in order....but I'm stubborn....hey I'm half italian).

Felt a lot like being on a Crazy tall bias ply rear tire with a standard street tire on the front....except I wasn't on any setup near that lol. As track cooled in the night, the rear drove the car all over the track....very uncomfortable...and well, I guess we're now at power levels where bad things can happen.

I'll keep folks up with which susp setup I finally decide on.

First trip to the track is always fun, I recently went through the same thing with my street Z. The first few trips on any big power setup is generally just to learn what you need to improve - be it parts, driving, or in my case both

car has the power (obviously).....just gotta make a few changes to put that power down and make it safer lol.

ran my buddy's who were going 12.0@120 (300 tt...built), and 11.8 @ 119 (single supra on slick)....on highway in each gear I'd put bout 4 cars on them lol (yes 4+ cars in each gear lol)

so true.

this tire may not be right/enough either...but hard to tell with the shoddy track prep....Once I get it all sorted out I'll take it to Rte 66 for a killer launch for 1 pass lol

Did you adjust camber at the back when fitting wheels?

bone stock suspension so not much in the way of adjustment possible.

I'll be changing it all so I'll have the adjustment needed.

Rear camber/toe is SLIGHTLY adjustable out back. Problem with the design is that as you bring one into spec one goes out, basically eliminating a "good" adjustment range from the factory.

I'll PM you later with some proven suspension mods that work well up to 150-160 mph. And like Bert said, There's no shame in your game. Just have to get used to what works with your setup.
At least your racing and not bench racing !!!!!!!!!

I just remembered that SP is working with you, I'm sure Chris can help you.

^^ just keep your trailer hitched up while you're going down the 1/4. That could be a good suspension mod but your times would suck.

I'll CC the PM
