Default Need help with tire advice.

In the past, I used BFG 265/40/18 drag radials on the stock 18" G35 wheels. I only managed to pull a best of 1.90 60' time. I would hook and bog or I would spin. My car makes 360whp/390wtq.

I have the opportunity to buy some 17"x8" 1996 Cobra wheels with 245/45/17 Nitto drag radials for $200. I can't beat the price.

Do you think I will be able to hook on 245mm drag radials at my power levels? There's a drag radial/slick tire track event coming up next Saturday that I'd really like to attend. I haven't been drag racing in about a year and I miss it.

Nitto's aren't the stickiest DR out there (in fact they are the least sticky), and it will be pretty tough to hook up with them. That size in particular lacks sufficient sidewall and width to plant the power. Still should be better than trying to run on street tires.

Is is imperative that you stay in a drag radial class?

Hey man I have not been around for awhile either. Last time I saw you was at the Gainesville road course we all went to.

Got some traction issues, the best option going right now but they are costly are the M/T et street radial II they come in the 265 40 18. These tires hook good enough to break sh*t though, so I read.

Good luck at the event.

EDIT Sorry forgot to mention the Nitto's could be of "some" use, but I would pass if I were you.

ya, put that 200$ towards a better setup. You can get a pair of 16x8.5" rims off ebay for ~80 bucks each, then a nice 28" DR

but, track prep will make more a difference. You can have great tires, and bad prep (like my weekly TnT) and still get crap results

I know guys that hook with 700rwhp and 245-sized tires (i.e. 1.6s 60's and 10s passes), but they typically run the MT ET Street Radial (not MT ET Street). Are you sure those Cobra wheels aren't 17x9? A lot of 300ZX-ers buy Cobra wheels because they are 17x9, but I don't know from which year.

With tools or elbow grease, you can make the 300ZX TT rear 16x8.5 wheels fit over your rear Brembos - they go for pretty cheap as well. Then follow that with some MT tires.

Wish i still had them would use on my Nismo wind it up and pop the clutch o well! There M/T ET Street 26x11.5x17 Pictures of the Mustang eng. for proof

16x8.5 FD wheels fit over brembos with no modification. Its what I use on my ET Street bias plys

They are super light (~14 lbs)

I happen to have a pair for sale too if you are interested

Thanks for the advice, guys. I passed up on the deal. Now I'm trying to get some 305/45/18 MT ET Streets. If I do, then I have to find some wide 18" wheels.

That's a huge tire - total overkill IMO.
