Default track times

got the first few runs of the season in today. Sucked because I haven't had any seat time launching my car and only got about five passes in today. First was a 14.3 with a haggard 2.4 60'. Best of the day was 14 flat @ 102 mph. I know these cars have 13s in them stock. My problems was getting the car to hook. Wheel hop outta the hole and right after my 1-2 shift. Any tips/ techniques to getting these to launch pretty well?

Don't have access to a scanner but here's what I can do

R/T: .4200
60' Ft: 2.2050
330 ft 6.0939
1/8 ET 9.2131
1/8 MPH: 79.34
1000' ET 11.8691
1/4 ET 14.0979
1/4 MPH 102.05

I'm thinking my bushings in the rear may be bad. I could not get the car to leave and not have wheelhop at all. Tried rolling through the lights, launched at 2k, 2.5k, and 3k. Dropped tire press down to 20. This was the first run I did where I did heat the tires just a little bit. Fuzion ZR-I ftl!

A decent starting point. Wheel hop is a common issue with IRS cars. Easiest way to cure this is going to a dedicated drag tire....DR or Slick. I never, ever had wheel hop on drag radials.

Last time I drove a rwd car at the track was an 04 gto and it was nasty. I think I burnt the remaining rubber off my stock 17s so I'm going to order some radials and diff bushings and hopefully I can click of at least a 13.8 pass

I was at the rack today too, What year and model Z do you have?

Mine is a 2003 track edition, With only DC headers and topspeed test pipes. Everything esle completely stock

( I useto have intake and exhaust but sold them)

My two best times today were...

60' 2.231
1/8 9.017
mph 81.73
1/4 13.781
mph 101.96

60' 2.251
1/8 9.047
mph 81.18
1/4 13.888
mph 102.09

I have nitto 555 with good tread 245/45/18.

I did not have any problems with 1-2 gear shift it spins a bit but no hop. But launching, my best advice would be is to launch around 3500 rpm.. Feather the clutch out at a good rate and as you have accelerator down halfway for a split second for the launch, as soon as you feel it grip or start to hop, step on it, and rev the gears out. I found that when switching from 3-4 .. change gears a bit early around 6450 rpm istead of the 6600 rev limit.. I got better trap times that way. Other than that the rest is just practice and feel.

I had a couple other mods and ran the time you see in my signature, 13.3 @ 103.. But i sold the mods and waiting to go turbo

I have an 03 performance with intake and exhaust. Your times are interesting. Our 60's are about the same yet you picked up more in the big end than I did so I'm not too ashamed with my times. I'm thinking I need to get some test pipes soon to help out. I'm going to order some spl diff busings to get rid of some of this wheel hop. I think my 1-2 shift with the wheel hop is killing my times.

You seem to be scrubbing some considerable speed off on your 1-2 shift.....are you also losing traction as you hit 3rd? Picking up 23mph in the second 1/8 is stellar. Since we are in a comparative mood.....here is PB from the last time I was at the track.

No I have traction when I hit third. Once I hit second I have wheel hop for a split second then it finally picks up and goes. I don't think I'm still in the gas when I shift. I think I just need a little more seat time really. I made improvement today. First pass was 2.4 60' and ran a 14.3. Still used to my fwd tibby unfortunately

i brought mine to the track a couple weeks ago and was very disappointed in the outcome. my second and third runs were 16.0 and 17.0 respectively due to blowing the shitty stock tires off on the launch, and aborting the run. on the third run, my clutch petal stuck to the floor as well. this has already been fixed after the system was bled. my best run of the night was my first run 13.7@103.....i was disappointed still with this because of a soft launch, and over revving in 3rd (about 7800)....i am going back to get a better baseline time in a couple weeks to a better track

If you don't know if you are still on the throttle when you shift, you need more seat time. You will do much better after some practice.

Pfft. You and your .01x RT. That car is powerful (of course I've seen your dynos), with a 22mph pick up at the end. I was comparing my best time to this slip of yours, and we're good to the 330', then you're gone.

Dial: 13.500
60': 1.882
330': 5.567
1/8: 8/648 @ 80.31
1000': 11.302
1/4: 13.557 @ 99.91

That was pre-tune with the ART pipes, so I was at 256rwhp/234rwtq. I hope to be able to pick up a little more after my latest tune (271rwhp/252rwtq, which I know you know but for others reading), but I still think I'll have to go to Sac Raceway (easy 0.1s, likely 0.2s faster than Sears Point) to get that 12s pass and hush Fowlman.

you haven't told us how much your car weighs. Since you can't take any more things off, maybe you should remove the paint and drill holes in everything.

Scott, I should have been in the 12.80's that day, but it was about 32-35 degrees out and a snowstorm the previous week had washed away all the VHT. Atleast for me....there was zero traction out there. More typical for me is 1.88-1.92, but it just wasn't happening. Not too mention I even broke the drag radials loose hitting 4th

14.0 seconds is not the greatest but you beat all the lame *** bench racers around here. Congratulations.

The DA for your last runs was under 2k feet man. Its going to take a serious effort to break 12's. Good luck, but I've run in the 13.20's at similar DA. Sac is a fast track no doubt though.

It got down to 2920# before I added the roll bar, so it's right at 3000 +/-20# now. I like your paint removal idea, I actually have no need for that crap. Maybe I should pull the NOS magnets as well, whaddya think?

Dang. Sort of a balance between more power from the cold night and the lousy track conditions because of it. I'm sure there is an inflection point there somewhere.

I think Sac is typically faster for NA cars. A hot day in Sac is certainly not better than a cool night at Sears in my 300ZX TT. I've run the same 11.2 at both places.
