Default New Z-Slow Times

Hey guys. Just bought my 2nd Z a few weeks ago. 2008 Touring. The previous owner installed hotchkins stage 1 kit, JWT pop chargers and a stillen catback. Anyway iv really been in love with the car until I went to the track last night....Made me miss my STI haha

Conditions weren't too great- around 80 degrees and humid

Atco Raceway

R/T-.747
60'-2.12
330-5.957
1/8-9.054
MPH-80.22
1000-11.701
1/4-13.933
MPH-102.51

Let me know if its worth it to go catless and get the uprev tune at R/T tuning or just wait until I can afford the twins. Id really like to see traps in the 106-110 range. How bad do the heat and humidity effect the Z's

you can trap 106-107 stock there has even been one guy trapping 109 stock, get rid of those short ram pop chargers and install the stock air boxes with k&n drop ins, also looks like your shifting was slow since your 60' is okay

Gonna be hard to get much quicker than that stock. I've seen a best of 13.5 @ 104 with just a tune, 109 traps stock must be a downhill track lol.

Catless will help a ton, as will a decent tune, you can use the higher revs to keep the car in 3rd right through the lights even with some added power.

Launch the car harder and you could get a mid 13 pass with the power you have now. Agreed on losing the short-rams though, they almost never make power on HR's.

There are only 7 cars below a 13.5, only 2 have hit a 13.1.

That's far from normal if it has only happened for 2 people. I'd rather tell him the truth, most guys with HRs are in the mid 13's stock at best.

correct but thats just people on the forum, then you have the not stock list which something as little as taking out your spare tire disqualifies you from being on the 100% stock list. but anyway op just practice and you will get good results maybe not in the summer tho lol

Lol, the not stock list is the same, nobody on street tires is better than a 13.2

There is no way with the traps I was getting to go much better than 13.7ish. I'm no pro driver but i have well over 100 passes down the track. Granted iv only have maybe 6 with the Z but Its definitely not my first rodeo. I'm planning on getting the car dyno tuned at the local uprev dealer and going either catlless or high flow cats. I figured the intakes weren't helping.

That is not true. Ive run 13.7 @ only 100mph trap on street tires on a similarly modded DE.

Others with traction have run low 13.1's or 13.2 @ similar traps.

Just because you have over 100 passes down the track doesn't mean you are good. Is grandma a better driver because she has been driving longer than I have been alive? Fawk no.

You could easily drop .2 off that 60ft on street tires. That lone should get you .3-.4 off the 1/4 time and increase your trap.

Summer isn't the time to set records, so Id just go and practice on your launch and shifting.

^This.

I went to the track a few weeks ago and was running 13.8 because of the weather. During the summer I only go for fun. Fall and winter I get serous. Also definatly put the stock airboxes back in you'll see a difference in your numbers.

Like i said I'v owned the car for a week so I'm not good with the car by any means..... but in my experience for every .1 on the 60 you are getting about .2 on the back end. So hypothetically if i go 1.9 60 ill end with a 13.5......I get that I'm just saying i wasn't impressed with the trap speed

Are the stock air boxes the only good option?

Pretty much. The few long tubes out there that actually gain power only gain in the very top of the powerband, and the metal tubing heatsoaking while sitting at the line will probably offset any actual gains over the stock stuff with upgraded filters. The stock system is ram air and has plenty of capacity.

OK keep the Z.

July and August are for hardcore racers. Hot hot. These will not be your best times. If I remember Atco Raceway is several square miles of black asphalt. No trees. No grass. No shade. Good luck.

Rather than modding the car for more power, I'd spend the money on some more seat time. Honestly, 100 passes is very little, not to mention almost all of them were in a different car (not your 350Z). If your best was 13.9 at ATCO, a track known for spitting out the fastest times in the country for many, then you have a long way to go. Practice more and you'll be shooting for low 13s on street tires soon.

As a reference, with similar mods on my DE, I was probably running 13.6-13.8 passes on street tires in the summer.

They pop up used in the marketplace for under $100 all the time.
