Default 5AT launch techniques?

I'm pretty new to sportscars, and extremely new to the 1/4 mi. I picked up an 08 Auto Enthusiast, and it is easily the fastest car I've owned. I took it to the track (Royal Purple Raceway) a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed with the car, not so much with my driving. I launched right off idle every pass with little- to- no spin. I have bought a few more mods and will be getting tuned at Secret Service in Houston. I know there are some tenths left on the table in my 60'. I'd like to get a little better at this and start making it a monthly hobby. I know most guys are 6mt, but any tips could probably help. I am open to putting DRs on my stock 18s, mild weight reduction, and trying lower tire pressures. I would like to see a 12.89 eventually (my bro in law runs 12.9s in his charger). What is a good set of street tires for the track, so he doesn't whine when I beat him. A short wide set on my stock 18s would be good.

Mods during race:
aFe filters
HPS intake tubes

Well. I figured this would happen.

It only took 4 minutes for the first useless douchbag response. Where's the block button? Who's next?

Dang. U better learn how to take jokes bc the serious ones are coming. Thats why i put jk lol---. Theres not a special technique in an automatic. That's why its called an auto. Does itself. Wasn't being a douchebag u douchebag. Just saying that was the only way I thought to drive an auto. I don't have an auto sports car and never will so idk.
Wheres the "post stupid questions" thread at? Who's next?

pressing on the gas and brake at same time will cause the ecu to cut power, and heat up the torque converter quick. install a tranny cooler, and splice a switch onto the brake switch output going to the ecu. That way brake lights still work, but the ecu doesn't see that u are pressing on the brakes. This will allow you to torque brake harder and really get a good laugh.

put your flame suit on. you asked for it with this thread. simplest way I could put it is should have bought an 6mt if you knew you were going to race. the car you bought requires little skill.

there are 2 ways to launch the AT, disable the VTC, put ur foot on the brake, then either;

1) rev it around 2500, release the brake and feather the throttle to avoid wheel spin

OR

2) push down on the gas as you lift off the brake, data logging has shown in some cases this is actually better because the OEM ECU has been know to have a momentary power cutoff when torque launched

Thanks man. I have a left over Long Tru Cool LPD left over from my Titan, but I think it will be too big. It's rated at 24K GVW. I need to pick up a smaller one. A lot of the Titan guys also added a switch to the line you are talking about and called it the Burnout Mod. I never tried it. I'll have to go read the write up on it. Thanks again.

Well I have no skill, so my auto should work out fine. I'll go tell all the auto guys at the track that they messed up and bought the wrong car.

I keep it at around 2500 but I do a very slight burn out before that. Release the brakes and gradually push the gas all the way. VDC off.

Ofcourse I'm not an expert and I only do drag racing for fun. I don't even do alignments, reduce pressure and all the serious stuff, just sharing what I feel works well.

Here's just a fun drag race between me and a moderately modified 300zx TT.

I was doing option two on every run, because I was nervous and didn't want to roast the tires off the line. It took most of my concentration to stage and not mess up. I'd like to try and rev it up next time.

Nice run. That track is unbelievable!

I don't plan to ever be an expert either. I took my son, my bro in law took his son, and we all had a blast. The kids were videoing and cheering us on... But I really would like to beat him ha ha.

Try brake torqing a little higher than idle like 1500-1800.

Use MM and shift at redline and try to cross in 3rd.

Lower your rear tires to 25-28 psi. Start at 28 and work your way down.

MT 265/40/18 DRs for your stock 18's

Get a transgo shift kit along with the tranny cooler.

Awesome. Thanks man. Do y'all use the Long Tru Cool LPD coolers on the Z/G? What size?

I saw a lot of your vids when I was reading about the Auto. Your car moves. I wanted to get in on the PPE group buy but I think that is too-much too-fast. I just ordered the ART pipes and XYZ. Once I'm getting good times with these mods I'll check in and see how they are doing for y'all. Thanks again.

would you happen to know the time difference between just giving it gas when the light turns green, and launching with the left foot on brake and giving it gas as you let off your left? Big or really small diff at the track?
