I start drifting in 2 weeks...advice?

Default I start drifting in 2 weeks...advice?

Got taken in under someones wing as a rookie. Gonna ride shotgun for a while with them till they put me behind the wheel.
Was gonna rebuild a 240/silvia and start up from there as a drift car, but i was advised to start drifting on the car I want to continue drifting on (My Z...i want to drift a Z ) so thats okay I guess?

1.5 LSD
Toyo R compound tires (I don't have racing wheels yet. I have my CCW T10s 19x9.5, 19x10.5 255/35/19, 285/35/19) so are those fine?
JWT TT will be on by then


What [stage] clutch & flywheel?

What mods are *necessary* at first? It's a show car that once I get my next show car, gets gutted and turned into a complete drift car but until then im preparing for HIN and NOPI (again. i want 1st place this time, not 2nd lol)


Thanks! It feels so crazy awesome to entering into this sweet facet of motorsport and im excited as hell (but nervous too. i have lots of drift videos and the camera men freak out when riding shotgun with pros lol)

best motoring Drift Off Vol. 19 DVD(Japan vs. USA)

they drifted a stock miata. pro drivers spun out again and again, because they are not use to the car. kazama, drift champion drifted the car as if it was made for him. in short parts make it eaiser to drift but if you never try what you got you could be wasting money setting up you car for someone elses drift style.

Add a clutch type LSD and the z drifts fine...Add coilovers and the Z drifts better...add a Turbo and the Z drifts mighty fine...this was my progression into turning my Z into a beastly sideways master aha...I liked the way my Z broke loose on stock suspension alot, and it took me a while to find a good setting on the coilovers, and I still havent found the perfect setting

best to start drifting just using tires and LSD..... starting off small is best, regardless if you've been taken under someones wing. they shouldve told you to start out small as well. the TT should be the LAST thing to be done to your car. Do they drive a 240?

stock clutch and flywheel will be fine for drifting, unless its already slipping, then i suggest the ACT stage 3 since you're also going to have TT in the near future. i have a friend of mine who's Z im watching who has LSD, ACT stage 3, and cat-back and popcharger, HKS coilovers, JIC tie-rods and drifts plenty fine. once he gets back from NTC is when he's getting his greddy TT

LSD, tires, tie-rods and ends, and suspension is all you need to drift a z. once you get good at it..... then put the TT on... sure TT make it easy... but its also easier to spin out/lose control/make mistakes.

drifting 19s deff gets pricy! If you buy crappy tires they usualy rip apart before they go bald

Buy some 17" wheels and lots of cheap Korean Z rated tires. If you stay away from turbos for now, 245's out back are great. A good suspension goes a long way in making the car controllable. Sticky tires up front are good too, because if your front end doesnt stay gripping, the back won't slide right. R compound tires are for grip driving, not drifting. The learning curve is really steep. Every time you go drifting you learn a whole bunch. Good luck!

This was my my first event ever. SpeedFed Nationals a few weeks ago.
The 240 you see me driving there only has 140 HP and an open diff. Obviously next mod is a DIFF to improve traction and of course the eventual Swap for power. The 240 is a great car to learn drift technique .. Less expensinve to reapair too.

Get some coilovers...

better locking if you have extra cash

some stock wheels with some cheap new khumos

from my experience with both of my Z's

id say the minimum things id have to complete a professional course would be:

-coilovers(i use TEIN super drift)
-a 2WAY diff....not a 1.5
-a hydraulic ebrake(k sport makes a very nice one)

the things i would reccomend for you with a TT Z would be(for competition) the following:

-same as above
-strip the car
-18s(tires are cheaper in most cases and youll have more traction from a thicker sidewall
-sway bars
-a nice clutch(i use the carbonetics twin disk carbon)
-an approved cage,seat,harnesses
-stillen upper adjustable control arms
-stillen rear toe/camber adjusters

this is a very vague list, theres alot more i could mention but assuming your on the right track with your motor and things like that i'd say the stuff i said above would have you in the right direction
