also when I perused that thread you linked, I noticed that they talked about stock mechanical type limited slips installed from the factory as a basis for comparison of the upgraded nismo unit, and our cars do not come with this type of factory unit.

the Z either comes as an open diff (base model and enthusiast I think. I know Base) or a Viscous Limited Slip Diff. now, a viscous works just as it sounds. it has a fluid that thickens as it increases velocity while spinning until it thickens to a point where it can create the function of a limited slip.

or something like that

humm, your budget is 1500. i say you should go with the cusco rs type. its around 900, and you need new bearings and probably upgrade the diff cover at the same time. also you would need the vlsd stub axles+labor to install would total around 1500ish.

you could save some money and just buy the nismo though, it comes with everything.

oh yeah, and if you get a Nismo... trust me, get the Motul Fluid. it is so worth it. PA-90.

it quiets it down and makes the operation so, so smooth compared to the redline or OE Veruspeed fluid.

Have you had to change your clutches yet. Assuming you drift frequently.

I used the Nismo locker in my 03. A bit noisy on the street but the PA90 Motul did help. We have them in stock as well: http://www.thenismoshop.com/ikorb.ph...&product_id=17
Your welcome to give Justin or myself a call and we will be happy to give you as much info as we can.

I believe the AEM D1 350z uses the Nismo LSD. Nismo FTW!

PS.....Change the factory clutch if you haven't already. Won't last to long during drifting practice (speaking from experience here).

rythmn: what clutch did you go with?

did you really beef it up, or just a st1 upgrade type of thing?

The car is basically stock still, so I didn't want to go to aggressive, but also leave a little room for power expansion. So, I went with the Competition Clutch Stage 2 with their light weight flywheel as well. I think the combo price was around $700. I'm still running the stock LSD (touring model), and it does suck. Nismo is in my future.

This past Sat. was my first EVER drift event. I'm working on a small video of the event as we speak.

humm, you sure about that? i know a friend of mine at like 60k on the stock clutch with many events on it and still runs strong. stock clutch is plenty strong, chebosto ran on it on his tt setup and ran drift and track events on it as well.

I bought the Z with 21k miles on it. I drove it till about 40k with a few trips to the 1/4 and 1/8th mile tracks + practicing getting it sidewayz. Every time I got near redline, I smelt only clutch. After a while it was toast. The CC clutch I have now has Kevalr deposits in it to prevent glazing. Another friend of mine has an 03 as well. He does not drive as aggressive nor as often as me, and his clutch went out no less than 2weeks ago. He has 100k miles on his Z.

There is no define line imo. It's just one of those "better safe than sorry" things.

Base 06 with a nismo 1.5 way. Love it. +1000000 on the motul 90pa. It will make some noise when you first install it and while you getting use to driving with it. By driving, I mean making slow turns. Once you figure out the lsd, it's quiet. You just have to remember once you put your foot down on the accelerator, keep it there. If you start moving and take your foot off the gas, it will clunk the rear end is about to fall out.
