Default Tire Storage - Tire Rack

Hi,

I just recently moved an no longer have the space of my two car garage i once owned..... the place I'm now in has a storage space in the garage and i have been needing a tire rack really bad!

Here are my drifting tires/daily driving tires/etc all mounted on my own build tire rack. The bottom 4 tires are just sitting on the ground and the rack then holds an additional 3 sets of 4.... yup... i can store 16 tires with this baby!!!

I used:
-1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 1/8 angle iron purchased at my local steel salvage yard. it took me three 20 foot long pieces.
-my harbor freight arc welder
-harbor freight 4 inch rotating caster wheels w/ lock.
-my handy dandy drill press and step drill bit.
I plan on painting it later.....

post up pics of your tire racks/tire storage area in your garage!!!
- Jason

Default tire rack.com tire storage rack..

Tire Rack Dot Com Tire Storage Rack.....

Not bad for autoX'rs who typically have one set of extra wheels....

you could easily make one like this if you have a welder for really cheap...

nope, the ones on the ends are turned around and the sidewalls of the tires make contact before the face of the rims... i was thinking of putting cardboard between the wheels just in case...

if you look closely you can see white cardboard on the back wall....i dont want to get black tire markings all over that back wall and have to paint this place when i move out..

oh, by the way, it only cost me about 30 bucks in steel to make this rack...

I have a vertical rack in the corner of my garage. It starts on the floor and goes up as I stack. Some call it a pile; but I'm staying positive... lol

I have the same verticle pile rack.. but I like the idea of going to a real rack. To get somthing from the pile, you have to unstack and restack that biatch. Not a real big deal, but if you cycle tires a lot, a good rack would make life better.

Default Also found:

Over the weekend I was at Home depot and saw that they sell garage shelves like the one pictured below.

Because you can raise and lower the shelf heights and move it to how you want these will work pretty nice. All you have to do is not install the mesh shelf and only the cross bars.

If you wanted you could weld, alter however you want too since its a decently heavy gauge steel.

They had it for $99.99, not to bad.

Default Sam's Edsal Rack - $149.99

Sam's club link of product - http://www.samsclub.com/sams/edsal-h....ip?navAction=

I bought this EDSAL brand rack at sams club for $150...build quality seems nice, but i would definitely compare it to the home depot and lowes edsal units they sell... i think the home depot ones are heavier gauge, but im not exactly sure...could be the same, i dunno...

but so far, the span in the beams works out perfect and the rack sits only 2 inches or so away from the wall and looks good.

Powder coat silver looks nice and its hard to see, but it easily holds 6 wheels across per rung...the second level shows two wheels in the middle, and two more wheels will fit on either end with wiggle room to get them in and out no problem...

it sells at SAM's with 4 tiers, but i only used 3 obviously, so thats kinda cool in case i damage a shelf up bad, i have a spare....probably just waste, but ill hold on it the spare beams for a while......

For now I left one of the wire shelf's on the top rung, since i don't have all my wheels up there....

I have more wheels, in these pics, not all are shown......

for me no, the 66 inch wide is why i choose not to get that one....i pretty much measured and knew that the wider sams club 77 inch wide is what i needed in width.

i measured a few wheels and wanted wiggle room to spare, but that rack can work for some sure...I own 18 wheels..4 will be on the car, so i barely make it with the overhead door rails to put two on the top left side...
