Angry In Need of a Little Direction

Howdy folks,

I currently own a 2006 base 350z with a handful on bolt on.

I just bought it roughly 5 months ago and still making payments. I love drifting/autox but I am unsure of what I should do to fullfill my love for these two sports. I don't want to wreck my Z on a track so I thought about track insurance. After looking into how much that costs I started thinking it would be wiser to buy a 240 instead.

My goal is to go pro sometime in my life and want as much seat time as possible.

I'm not sure if its worth buying the 240 to beat the **** out, pay the insurance, or wait 5 years until my Z is paid for.

I would like your input (flamming incouraged)

dont be scared, i daily drive my 350z

Owned it since 2010
128,xxx miles
welded diff, hydro ebrake, and a few other drift goodies
And its been to its been to 25+ drift events in Louisiana,Texas,Florida,Atlanta
Most of the events i didn't use a truck/trailer.

Ive been thought a few 350z's and 240's to know they are a good daily that you can still put a little bit of track time in. Just try it out at a local autox/drift event.

good luck going pro, Hah

Sell it and go head first into drifting!

Buy 2 240sx and drift knowing both are paid off rather than have your main car do double duty...even though it can!

as long as u dont practice on the street, you should be fine. yeah, accidents happen on the track, but to me that's a smaller chance than regular commute on the streets........

I agree with this.

1 for drift/practice
1 for DD

My reasoning is when you go out to practice you want to push your skills in order to improve. With the Z, something will always tell you to "ease up a bit, this is your DD and you haven't paid for it yet lol" which might affect your performance.

But if you love the Z too much then just keep it.

Take your time to decide man.

Keep the Z and grab a 240. In stock form, the Z drifts well and you can learn a lot from it. However, it's a financed dd and the last thing you wanna do is put it into a wall trying to grab gnarly angle. Yes. I said gnarly. lol. With the 240, it's typically a car you can pay cash for and with a few mods, it'll get your skill level up. Plus, if you kiss the wall or make out with that sumbish, it doesn't matter cuz you still got your daily.

Only reason I would say don't get 2 240's is cuz 1) it's hard to find 2 worth buying and affordable all at the same time and 2) I like the Z more for a daily/cruiser/show/fun-run car than I do the 240. Love 240's but I don't think I could go back to having one as my daily..even if I didn't have kids. lol.

Sh*t happens in drifting. That's never going to change. If you still DD your Z you're always going to have a little voice in the back of your head going "I need to drive this back home tonight and back to school tomorrow, I should go easy." I still DD my Z but the thing is I've gotten to the point where I don't give a flying f*ck about it so I don't care about that any more. When you start getting more serious about it is when you're really going to feel it though; if you have to get a full cage with door bars to compete you're going to feel really bad about doing that to your DD. I know I did.

My buddy Mario still owes on his 07 and it's full racecar like mine. He got a truck to daily though, so he doesn't have to worry about dailying it. Z's are super solid cars, but if you're thinking of competing and tandeming, just remember that sh*t happens. One second everything could be fine, next second you could be in a wall or with someone else giving your quarter panel a lapdance with their bash bar (Happened to me at the last event ).
